How to Support Audio Science Review

You see it in your profile.

I, in my own small way, have just renewed.

With all the limitations of the language, this is now the only forum on hi-fi that I read and frequent and a thank you to @amirm, for everything he offers us for free, and to the moderators (who do the dirty work...) is never enough.

Have a good weekend to all of you
I would like to clarify:
Do I want to leave this GREAT EDUCATIONAL about AUDIO site?
NO, NOT AT ALL!
But I am not interested in seeing politics here. It's dang near everywhere else, I am very happy to come here & immerse myself in AUDIO.
Amirm has clarified to me that that side of things will be in it's own space on this site and anyone can choose to look at it or not.
That is fine with me & I'm not going to go anywhere, since I have that choice.

Keep up the good fight, Amir.

Hopefully my modest membership renewal can alleviate some of the trauma caused by those who decided to "take their ball and go home"....

Is it possible to get a prorated refund on a donation?
Yes, here is the current formula we use (similarities to another one are purely coincidental - not!)

ΔASRi=ASR60×ϵ×ϕDi−Ri

Where:
  • ΔASRᵢ = The Discussion-Review Hype Delta for product/topic i
  • Dᵢ = Number of heated discussions, endless debates about SINAD, and cable measurements for topic i
  • Rᵢ = Number of actual, measured, graph-heavy reviews for topic i
  • ASR60 = The time (in minutes/days/months) it takes for a topic to fully decay on the ASR forum — kind of like RT60 for rooms, but here it measures how long people keep replying even after it should’ve died
  • ε = Emotional Bias Factor (how worked up people get over DAC measurements no one can actually hear)
  • φ = Subjectivity Factor (how much personal taste sneaks into "objective" reviews — yes, we see you, headphone guys)

What it means:

  • If ΔASRᵢ > 0, the forum is more talk than measurements — a clear case of speculation reverb.
  • If ΔASRᵢ < 0, the measurements are drowning out the noise, and peace temporarily returns.
  • If ASR60 is high, brace yourself — this thread is gonna linger like a stubborn bass mode.

Example:

“XYZ SuperDAC 9000” gets:
  • 250 pages of speculation and flame wars (Dᵢ = 250)
  • 2 proper reviews by Amir with SINAD graphs (Rᵢ = 2)
  • ASR60 = 3 days (the typical forum echo time before people move on to the next DAC)
  • ε = 1.8 (moderate heated debate)
  • φ = 0.7 (surprisingly objective for once)

Plug it in…
ΔASR = (250 - 2) / (3 × 1.8 × 0.7)
Which equals… chaos.

Talking now seriously, although I am not happy of seeing topics like politics here (although I agree to a lot of the stuff Amir posts) I am and will be always thankful for this wonderful resource, heck in which other place sometimes Floyd Toole replies to your questions?

I could do without the politics, but I support the well intentions of the host. I just added an annual support as a vote of confidence. This hobby needs this site, the consumer needs this data, and the science community certainly needs the technical acumen of this group of members to keep talking to each other.

Let's keep the audio thing, the main thing. Salute to Amirm, and I do hope all the former mods, who did a great job, reconsider and come back to the scientific discussions.

FYI, the PayPal "are you a robot" verification is an exercise in frustration with poor images. I spent way too long playing beat the "are you a robot" app and finally gave up and went direct to PayPal with the other link for success. Hope that helps other to avoid the grins and frustration I experienced.

ASR is relies on goodwill of the visitors and members of the site to cover its expenses and enable testing of more products. There are no sponsors and no ads on the site as you may have noticed.

If you are interested in supporting us using donations, you can use one of the following four methods:

1. Patreon. This is an external service that accepts monthly donations. You can change/stop payments anytime you want. Just go to this page: https://www.patreon.com/audiosciencereview

Patreon takes its cut from donations you make. It is a good option if you want to spread your donations over time, or if you are not a member of ASR.

There is no linkage between Patreon and the forum software. So if you wish to be recognized as a Patreon donor, please contact me and I will do so. Alternatively you may want to wait a bit to see if I catch and update it.

2. ASR members can upgrade their membership to support us using one-time payment. This is the process:

To donate, click on your alias on top right of the forum. In the drop down select "Account Upgrades."

index.php

Once you click that, you are presented with three one-time options. I have set them to $25, $50 and $100 per year. There is no auto-renewal. It just expires after a year and you can then choose to donate again or not.

When you click on the option you like, you are taken to PayPal. You can use your PayPal account if you have one. If you don't, just tell it so and you can enter any credit card you like.

3. Direct donation using PayPal. If you want to donate your own amount, please use this link: https://paypal.me/AudioScienceReview?locale.x=en_US

EDIT: I do not use the Amazon Affiliate program (even though I am qualified to do so). So please use the above methods to support us.
4. Amazon affiliate. I am set up as an Amazon associate meaning that if you go to Amazon using a special link and buy things there, some percentage of the purchase amount gets sent to me as commission. The amount of commission ranges from zero to 8% I think. Sadly the highest amount is for fake jewelry and such.

This is a good time to thank the many of you who have donated. It puts a huge smile on my face every time I see a notification that a donation has been made. Not as much for the money which is appreciated, but the fact that there is no better acknowledgement of the value of this site than someone spending hard cash on it.
Hi there, sent donation directly throughout PayPal link instead of the account upgrade. Apologies, wasn´t really ready¡ing carefully. Any remedy to that?

I am sorry for late reply. I searched for your email and didn't see a transaction. If you start a conversation with me and give me the email you used, I can manually upgrade your title. Until then, much appreciate the kind donation. :)
