HOw to minimal Hiss ? Pc sound still hiss. suggestions?

Can I clarify the equipment you are currently using please?

When you say "from the PC directly" do you mean from the soundcard, or motherboard's, headphone jack or something else? Do you have an optical digital output (Toslink) as an alternative?

When you say "I take the 3.5 out of the DAC" do you mean that you already have a DAC? If so how are you connecting it to the PC?
HI in post 37 is a picture of the low quality pluggable dac 17 dol. it has a 3.5 output . whether I was plugging the 3.5 edifier system inside this 17dol dac or at the back of the motherboard the sound was the same. I have no graphic card . My pc is a small form factor as stated in intro, no additionnal sound card.
I am not certain if there is a toslink on the what appears 2015 pc .

ai that can be wrong tells me no : his answer :No. The HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Small Form Factor (SFF) does not have a built-in optical digital audio output (TOSLINK/SPDIF optical port) on the rear panel. The rear I/O includes DisplayPort, VGA, USB, Ethernet, and analog 3.5 mm audio line-in/line-out jacks, but no optical audio connector

the pc looks like that https://files.bbystatic.com/4BCpKZ+lKafxboeMm9NH5A==/FA3597AC-808A-424B-A2A5-71B89635CF59.pdf

What firmware problems? The only issue I'm aware of is that the tweeter gating was initially overly aggressive but that was resolved with an update.

Are you in the U.S. or a different market? They appear to be in-stock for me.
im in canada.
atm as i wrote in the intro ; I just bought a edifier mr4 that i can return because too much hiss even if much better than the very old altec lansing i was using before. I can return the mr4. I also have a jvc speakers see detail in my reply recent so I could use them as speaker. I dont aim at orchestra quality music: My Priority is really the to get rid of the hiss ( even at 9 to 11 oclock i ear it on the edifier)

Reddit people complaint about this device

Yes. The same is true for mono chip-amps in active speakers. The speaker drivers make no sound without an amp (internal or external).
The first thing to do IMHO would be defining, where the problem lies - in amplification, in the PC itself, in a ground loop, external interference?
Starting from the unconnected amp+box (or the active box) and from there, adding one component at a time, to pin down the culprit.
Without this, it is like shooting at random in the fog...

Trying your luck by exchanging components may succeed (though it will be mostly expensive), but may also fail (in case of external interference). Testing "piece by piece" is the more rational approach IMHO.
HI how to do that ? can you use other words please thanks

Based on those answers, the problem is the JVC sound system itself (self noise). Not much you can do with that other than replace it with something lower noise.

(EDIT : or are you talking about the EDIFIER now? - if so, make sure you move the main eidifer speaker away from other electronics - including that altec lansing that it is right up against)

EDIT AGAIN - in fact here is another test for you. Switch off EVERYTHING in the room except the speakers, including lights. Connect your phone. Play music. Is there noise?
(This will eliminate noise coming from other nearby electronic devices)

What about the Edifier you have that you are thinking of returning. Is the noise from that also there with nothing connected? Or with audio from the phone?

Speakers can't generate noise - only electronics can do that. (including the amps in active speakers like the Edifier)
Hi the jvc are not part of the system. they are an option i have for free..

I can t EDIT the intro since so here are clarification. Forget altec 5.1 . I have a just bought and can RETURN edifier mr4 that makes hiss. Even when just plugged in cell phone and everything unpluged around. and even alone by it self. I am adressing the sound coming from the speaker .It seems the pc can create and transfer a hiss to external amp even with a DAC? ok it is unlikely right? how to go around it cheap?

-I do have a cheap 17dollar pluggable usb DaC as picture before.

-I do have a spare jvc speaker in another room, old i could use for passive from what I understand

-----------

Im curious about the bluetooth . Is it an alternative to optical in order to avoid using digital info transfer like usb? Do they work well? Which to recommand?
-----------

I do not trust chatgpt but sometimes it can bring ideas. I Trust human experience. I would like to know what do you think about the strategy ai is suggesting.

=It says upgrading the 17 dol DAC to a better one have less chance to solve the hiss than to buy quiet external amp like topping mini 300(200dol )(aligned with redacted reply). And use my spare used 20 years old speackers passive. So start by buying quiet amp

=Then if there is still hiss it says to buy a better DAC like SMSL SU-1 (108 dol) .
= He says , if still hiss to change the speakers.

Is it a good plan and is it right? People say the pc can be the cause but it does not talk about it...

Ah, it is important to distinguish between these so that are not trying to fix the wrong problem.

Mains hum will be a constant low pitched pitch 'hum' noise at a single frequency i.e. at the frequency of your mains supply. In the UK this is 50 Hz but is 60 Hz in the USA. If you say "Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" at the bottom of your voice it will be something like that.

Electrical noise can be pops, clicks or other sounds but typically is a hiss covering multiple frequencies but much higher than a hum. If you say "Hisssssssssssssssssssssssssss" is not a single frequency towards the top of your voice that is what audio hiss sounds like.

Which of these do you hear from your speakers?
hiss high pitch

The problem is the AI doesn't know the source of the noise - it is guessing. And AI hallucinates - you can't trust it here. Based on what you have said - (speakers hiss with nothing connected) it sounds like the speakers have self noise (the built in amp) but it is possible you are just expecting too much from relatively low cost hardware.

I assume you are leaving the speakers at a normal volume - and not turning them up to max in order to hear the hiss?

Regarding the bluetooth - it will give you a perfectly noise free connection to the source - but that will only help if the noise is coming from the PC - in your case it sounds like it is not. That is why we are not talking about it any more.

What volume do you have the speakers turned to?

HAVE YOU TRIED LISTENING WITH ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IN THE ROOM TURNED OFF AS I SUGGESTED ABOVE.

This is important. if the noise is coupling from some other device (or lighting) somewhere - you can spend as much money as you have and not solve it.

maybe im expecting too much , maybe not. Im willing to try something like ordering other material, I could always just stay with the edifier but since i have jvc speakers and could buy a objtect likea silent amp like mini 300 could remove all hiss potentially im willing to try. I wonder if the step from ai are still good even if just like use dont know the source of the hiss.

yes i ear it even at 8 even at lowest.

I understand the edifier creates hiss it self. The situation is that i want to try something else that could have even less hiss so I look for a strategy and what to buy in the right order. If an object can play multiple role at the same time and still be inaudible id like to know to prevent buying mutilple layers of objects.
What volume do you have the speakers turned to?
between 9 and 11 covers my sound levels that i ajuste via vlc or youtube.

does that mean concretely edifier not close to electronics and plugged into a electric outlet what has the second outlet empty? can i use a extension cord for the electricity for the test?

Just Do The Test. It Will Take Five Minutes Or Less.

Turn Everything Off (Unplug It - No Connection To Mains) Including The Lights.

Turn Just The Edifier Speakers On. Listen To Music From Phone.

Is There Noise?

I am done here.

I've followed this thread about a 101 noise problem for its 68 posts now and have concluded that the hiss is most likely coming from the audience.

HI I unplugged everything i could same hiss. I am sorry to see you leave if that is what you are doing. Your diagnostic questions were intelligent.

It seems edifier creates its own hiss unleass it is from the power plug in the wall.

All amps (including those in active speakers) Hiss. It is only a question of whether that hiss is enough to be audible.

This depends a lot on the gain in the amplifier - and the amp volume control.

Ideally you want to be listening with your source (PC/Streamer etc) set to maximum volume and with the amp /speaker volume turned down to create the volume you want from the speakers.

This will minimise the speaker hiss.

Hi im not sure if you imply i hallucinate the hiss of you are making a joke cold.

Hi yes this makes sens, it is what i do . If the speakers where further away i would ear less hiss. I could put them on the wall or to the ceiling and still have some sound. But the acces to the volume button physically on the edifier, I sometimes have to use it if i go in kitchen or want to have louder music(win10 being already at 100.

Is there a way to control this physicall button without touching it(if it is on the wall for example) . Maybe a program can do that so i could still turn it but using the pc mouse?

Thanks

OK, then do this.
1) Turn the edifier volume down to zero.
2) Turn the volume up to maximum on your PC, VLC player etc.
3) Slowly increase the edifier volume until it reaches the maximum loudness you really need.
4) Put a little sticker or mark on the edifier, that should mark the highest volume you ever want to set on the edifier. Leave it at this setting for now.
5) Once more turn off everything and disconnect all inputs to the edifier.

Can you now hear objectionable hiss from the edifier when you are in your normal listening position i.e. not with your ears against the speakers? (and with your edifier still set to your special mark).

If you get unacceptable hiss even like this then you have your answer and need something better than the edifier. If it is OK but the hiss comes back when you plug in your PC or other device and switch stuff on then there is an additional/different problem with the extra thing you have just connected or switched on so you need to find out what that is by a process of elimination.

hi I did the steps , the hiss seems exactly the same whether the edifier is plug in the dac or unplugged from it.

The suggestion @gwing gave you is about getting the volume setting on the amp to the minimum possible value - to minimise amplifier self noise. The question is if you have set the volume lower as described - is the hiss still objectionable, regardless of whether inputs are connected or not.

yes of course i found the spot is around 9 or 10 oclock that fits my need (minimal effective)and this place hiss.
