Hi all,

My friend is building a home theater in his basement. The dimensions are as follows in meter:
2,13 h x 3,65 w x 6,90 d.

He is wondering how and which bass traps he could build to put in the two corners in the back.
He will use 2 subs for low end and I'll help him with EQ'ing the room.

Could you guys guide us in this process? What size or shape should be used etc.? I've been reading the forum, but so much indormation is spread out, I can't get a grip on it.

Thanks y'all!

Single bass array and passive absorber ("bass trap") at back wall.

I don't know enough to advise you but Build A Better Bass Trap by Ethan Winer describes building resonant ("thin") bass traps. His company, RealTraps, sells bass traps and and other acoustic products and they offer advice/consulting. Their website has lots of information.

And in case you're not familiar with REW, it's room measurement software, Diagnosis before treatment!!! Their website also has lots of good information. REW can also help you experiment with different subwoofer locations (depending on how much flexibility you have). REW is free for home use but you need to spend about $100 USD for a calibrated microphone.

Another request for insights :). This time for choosing the best solution for the side-channel.

For the side channels we have a little bit of a challenge. The speakerset he bought contains of a dipole speaker. But as I have read, using a dipole speaker is not recommended as a side channel for surround/atmos. And there is not enough space to use the speaker in direct-mode hanging it on the wall, it would'nt leave enough space in the walking path.

So we have three options, as we see it:
1. Use the dipole speaker in dipole or direct mode but mount it sideways on the wall.
2. Make a hole in the dry-wall and put the speaker in direct mode in it.
3. Buy a separate in-wall or on-wall speaker.

What would be the best way, you think?

The speaker we are talking about is the Teufel T500 D16. Dimensions in mm (WxHxD) 192 x 260 x 162

Do not built any traps, do a thorough research on Dirac ART. This should take care of anything and everything needed in the room. And as bonus, he might get a 3rd sub in the back (for the price of treatments) that might correct things even further.
