I have pioneer receiver. I want to use an external dac. I have a question. How can i connect the external dac to the av receiver so that av receiver does not use its own dac?
Also i usually connect my phone directly to av receiver usb port to stream music, so in case of an external dac i would connect my phone to the external dac or receiver?

To really answer this more info is needed.

What Pioneer receiver do you have?
What is the DAC you want to use?

Basically it is quite simple, you use an analog input, but to defeat a built in DAC will vary depending on your hardware and probably there will be no audible benefit in doing so.

I have pioneer vsx 1131 and dac i want to use is topping E 30 ll

I'm not 100% sure you can fully bypass the internal DAC, but if you plug the analog LR outputs of the Topping into analog inputs 1, 2, 3, or 4 and put the Pioneer in "Pure Direct" mode I believe this will bypass the DAC.

You can certainly give it a shot and see if you achieve what you are after.

Edit: To use your phone you would plug your phone into the USB input on the Topping.

Not much point to it, but the suggestions made are ways to go about it. If you want to connect your phone to the external or internal dac needs a vote?

Usually there's a CD Direct mode (or similar) that bypasses the A/D and D/A in the receiver; you'll need to look at the manual which may tell you, who knows. You'll lose tone controls and room correction and maybe some subwoofer functionality.
