How much SINAD is enough

Pretty much, yes, you can mostly assume that. But beware. Manufacturers will pick the highest output voltage they can, even if it is at extreme level of distortion in some cases. Pro amps will often reference the BTL (bridged) output power as it has twice the voltage. And, at the other end, they will specify an A-WTD curve or a curve that kills off the mains related contributions (50/60Hz and harmonics) like a 400Hz HPF (aka hum and noise filter).
Sneaky bastards. If only we had a set of rigid standards designed to give usable information for us consumers... :D

You have really helped my understanding of a few things today, so thank you for that. Keep your critical voice and strong opinions!

Amen. Now, if I could just figure out how loud 40 uV of hiss is going to be in my 90-dB speakers.

Rick "come to think of it, I need to measure quiescent voltage of my amps to find out what the level is of this hiss, now that I have a voltmeter of the required sensitivity" Denney
Rick, don't measure anything, trust your ears! Well, that is all I have this morning. My one joke of the day.

I’m in a 10x10x8 ft room - an 800 cubic feet room.
I obviously don’t need, or want high volume SPLs. 65db to 75db seems really loud in a room that small (measured with an iOS app in the listening spot.) I don’t have, or want a subwoofer. Speakers are harbeth p3esr.

What do you think I would require in SINAD for transparency in electronics in a small, low spl space like that ? Background spl is about 30, 35db.

I’ve run a bunch of different dacs and amps. Some measure well (older but tested here) Automatic room correction nails a fantom center for tv viewing, and it sounds good with music depending on the type of music. I tend to leave it disabled for low volume acoustic music. I “think” all my different dacs and amps sound the same except for the one that provides rudimentary room correction but I haven’t done any blind testing.
Let me know your thoughts considering the size of the room and the low power, low SPL requirements.
Thanks

With your lower requirements and realistic volume levels, "most" decent or good equipment will work for you. No need to go high dollar unless you want to.

It's kind of funny--I forgot I wrote that and forgot I had intended to do it. Speaking of :facepalm:.
