How much coil whine is acceptable? svs

Bought 2 svs 1000 pro and after 1 day they are both exhibiting different levels of coil whine, at night with them both whirring away I can hear them at mlp 7/8 ft away in the quieter scenes, my sb 3000 had coil whine that could only be heard from about 5 inches away. What's an acceptable amount? I expected some coil whine but because there is 2 it's amplifying the issue. looking online it seems to be an older issue.

Coil whine or subwoofer hum? Those are 2 different things. Cool whine typically happens at full load when inductors are vibrating, which shouldn't be audible in a subwoofer during "quiet scenes".

Try plugging a spare USB device into the USB port on the back (thumbnail drive for instance, even one of those spare wireless mouse USB dongles should work). It appears to have an issue with picking up noise from the USB input. People have been able to solve or reduce the symptom by grounding the input with a spare device.

Even if the band-aid I mentioned works, it doesn't make it OK. I would consider returning the subs, I personally would never be happy with a device that makes this racket and am not sure how robust grounding the USB input is (even if it works).

There's computer noise which can happen when something is connected to a PC; it seems to transmit the digital or switching PSU sounds over the connection for some reason; maybe a ground loop of sorts. Most notably affects studio monitors which run full open, it's unusable

Its very similar to my graphics card coil whine which happens under load but this gets less audible under load but in standby, when there is nothing playing or any other point I can hear it, very high pitched. Sounds like its coming from the amp, the left sub is whining that also sounds a bit like a fan with tinnitus, right one is just high pitched like tinnitus. I unplug the sub cable its still there, use separate plug sockets, different power strips.

This is interesting, when I plug a usb hard drive into the port there is considerably less noise, if I plug a usb stick in it then it changes to an even higher louder pitch.

That's not good. And the dummy USB load isn't eliminating the problem, and even the opposite...

Perhaps contacting the SVS and the seller. You don't seem to be the only customer with this problem.

I hade the same issue with my sb 1000 pro after about 1 year. Reached out to svs and my local dealer. They switched out the amp, or at least thats what Ive been told. Now its dead quiet.

these are only days old so ill be going back to richer sounds and asking for replacements, disappointing.

Looks like svs are possibly sending me 2 amps, their customer support is really good, one weird thing I noticed,

the noise seemed to be getting louder on one of the subs and I could hear it across the top of the sub, then when I connected the svs app it squeals very high pitched and the noise drops considerably, when the app disconnects it starts whining again, this is on both subs but one is a fair bit worse then the other.
Does this mean its the bluetooth module making the noise??

there doesn't seem to be a way for me to constantly be connected to the app and the sb3000 I had didn't do this nor did the old 1000 pro I had.

My SVS 3000 Micro whines where I can hear it from my listening position. I did put on some silicone inside (see here), but it did not help that much.

Very hard to say. I hesitate to speculate.
I'm glad you didn't hesitate to get the item returned.
At least you are aware of what to look for, which will be helpful when you get the new amps.

And glad SVS is attentive. As much as reliability, I think good after sales support is critical. Perhaps ask SVS what is going on, it would help with speculation, which often accompanies unreliability!

It could be anything, a batch of faulty or counterfeit parts, bad surface mount process at the factory, design error that is fixed with a new PCB or component, etc.

Received the new amps and exact same problem, its quieter then the last 2 but the buzzing is there and gets audible once it drops the connection from the app, the moment I connect the svs app its dead silent. Im not sure if this is expected behaviour as thats 4 amps with identical problems at different noise levels, there is no way to stay connected constantly to the app too which would have completely solved the issue

Anyone know where the bluetooth module is in the pictures?

I did manage to work out what the problem was if anyone has the same problem, whenever the sub goes into standby it makes the noise, not sure why but if I turn the sub to always on it goes away.

Never heard wining yet from a sub, so don't really know what that would be. Have 3 SVS subs and they are never making any sounds except what is sent to them to reproduce. Even the small SVS 3000 that is on RCA connection is really well behaved and dead quiet when it needs to be.

Looks like a return issue rather than a fix issue.

But I am interested in the issue and looks like some other people had it as well. What are the subs connected to and are you confident in your electrical wiring? Any prior experience with other subs in that setup?

The subs are connected to a denon 3800h, I had a sb 3000 and another sb 1000 pro, difference back then was I left them in always on vs the auto standby mode, when the sub goes into standby it starts making the coil whine like noise that immediately stops when I wake the sub up with the app, I have had 4 amps off svs and its there in all of them.

Svs response was "This is related to the power supply load changing when the amplifier comes out of "Standby", and is within the expected tolerance levels for this amplifier." They couldn't explain why it was happening in standby constantly and not when just changing from standby, at night I listen at very low volumes so the subs are constantly going into standby as it was too low to register a bass signal, always on sorted it but I'm not overly happy about their response as it seems more like a design fault if that really is the case.

Richer sounds wouldn't take the return as they say if svs can't find or don't deem it a problem then it's £70 per item that I would have had to pay, a return without checking to them would have incurred a 15% restocking fee, I paid £1050 so it's a decent chunk to lose.

Well that's all I needed to hear to avoid SVS entirely. That's a pretty terrible response and even worse customer service. Idk if it's worth the time or effort but I would definitely be sending them some very unhappy emails about the issues you're having and that you won't accept anything but a return/refund/replacement. Consider that a company like Kali Audio was putting out defective amplifiers in a run of their LP6 monitors, their solution was to just send people new amplifier modules free of charge. It was maybe 2 emails before they had mine shipped out the door.

It's a lot of hassle and effort by this point, 5 weeks in means I can't get a refund from the retailer and I'm just burnt out from all the emailing/explaining to get them to do anything else, they say more amps won't solve the problem so won't authorise any unless its deemed a fault, sucks a bit as I need subs with app control for the volume as I change it often depending on the content and time of day, room gain compensation is also massively useful to me and I use it most nights, not sure there are any other subs which offer these features at a reasonable price.

Their responses were quick and helpful at first but after I got my new amps they changed to to "within tolerance's".
