How many speaker pairs do you currently own? How many have you bought in your life? How many are currently in active service (attached to a source/amplifier)? And how many pairs do you plan to own in your final collection?

Currently I have 8 pairs of speakers (6 passive and 2 active pairs). I've bought 8 pairs in my life. And I have 6 pairs in active service. I plan to have not more than around 10 pairs.

I currently only own 1 pair of Ascend Sierra LXs. At my age I believe they might just be endgame for me.

In the 50 years I've been in this hobby I've owned too many to remember, but I'd guess it has to be somewhere between 40-50.

Cool thread idea!

It seems like I have the opposite speaker collection habits to you. I've only bought 8 pairs of speakers and I've still got all 8 of them. You've bought over 40 but only kept one pair.

Only 6 of my pairs are in active service. I probably should give away the two pairs that are not being used. The reason I have two pairs not being currently used is because they seem to have dried out ferrofluid. Maybe I should give them away to someone who won't notice the tweeters aren't working properly but I'm also sentimentally attached to them.

Funny thing is that before the internet and forums like this, I was largely content with what I had and kept speakers a lot longer. :D

Of course, science and technology has improved speakers since those days.

An exaggerated amount; for me, this passion also encompasses a love for speakers and audio reproduction devices of all kinds, a fetish.
I currently have six pairs of speakers connected and working, and I still have four pairs that I don't use.
I've literally lost count of how many I've owned and resold.

From the first days of the journey:
1. Audioengine A2 (sold after 1 day)
2. Audioengine A5 (sold after 1 month)
3. JBL LSR305 MKII (now in garage)
4. Neumann KH120A (still use for desktop)
5. Linkwitz LX521.4 (diy, now sold)
6. LX521.4- and NaO Note-inspired Dipole Speaker
7. LS50 Meta (sold after 1 week)
8. Heismann Acoustics DXT-MON 182
9. Samsung WAM7500 R7 (for bathroom or on balkon)

7 pairs that work and 1 pair with damaged drivers.

One pair are powered the rest are passive.

2 pairs in use by me as I have two systems. 1 pair out on loan so also in use.

Not sure I can recall all the speakers I've owned going back 40 years but I'll have a go - in roughly chronological order

Fisher ST70
Studio Power MC200
Wharfedale CRS3
Lowther Acousta
My own DiY design
JPW Mini Monitor
Mission 731
B&W 601

JBL Control One
Studio Spares Classic NS10
Akai SW175
JM Labs Focal Elektra 926
Audiovector Super something or other (can't check the designation as they're out on loan)

I assume you won't be purchasing anymore Audioengine speakers in the future. :p

Yeah, a young, naive 19-year-old student felt for marketing and purchased a "great for desktop" small speakers, then was deeply disappointed. But it is an valuable experience anyway.

We live and learn. Back in the 80's I had a BSR EQ-110X equalizer that I bought from the DAC Industries catalog (who remembers that company?) that I thought made my many different Realistic speakers I owned sound great with the sliders set to the infamous smile curve. In fact all I owned in the 80s were Realistic speakers. They often had buy one get one free sales and I owned a few pair before finally being able to afford what I thought at the time were the holy grail rock and roll speakers, the Mach IIs. I was young and poor and that's all I could afford back then. :)

I have owned more than I can probably remember since I built my first pair using full range Wharfedale 8"RS/DD drivers in 1968.

I remember KEFkit3, Monitor Audio MA3, Nightingale point 5, Yamaha NS1000, Sonus Faber Extrema, Apogee Diva (active), ProAc EBS.

I still have the Yamahas connected in my bedroom but only use them when ill.
The ProAc EBS are in my study and rarely used, I can't work with music in the background and if it is in the foreground I am not working...

I have KEF LS50s in their box.
I have Tune Audio Anima horns connected and used, Goldmund Epilog 1&2 I have owned for almost 30 years now and are my main speaker and Devialet Phantoms connected but rarely used because an app on my phone is needed to use them and I hate using an app or streaming with a deep and intense loathing ;)

You're doing unusually well for this forum in resisting audioholism. Your total spending on most of those speakers is less than most here spend on a single pair of speakers. And you even sell the ones you don't use which is enviable. I've never sold a pair of speakers and just kept every pair I've bought, like a hoarder.

What didn't you like about the LS50 Meta? Just curious as I've never heard them.

I have owned a total of 15 pairs of speakers and three subwoofers.

Currently using:

Quadral Signum 70
Hifi 45/3 two pairs (DIY)
Tannoy Eclipse 3

Subwoofer HSU VTF-3 mk3

I know there are too many of them these days, but I haven't managed to sell off the extra ones yet.

Currently, I have 12 pairs and a few individual Bluetooth speakers. Over the years, I’ve probably had over 100 pairs. I haven’t counted them.

Thanks for your compliment. My resistance to audioholism is thanks to my education as an electrical engineer, and few acoustics courses in uni. In addition, I also attend many audio meetings and retailer visits, where I have a chance to listen to various speakers even high end ones. So apart from first three purchases, I am quite clear of what I should get and what should be upgraded in future.

I bought an KH120A since I was at 3th year of uni because it is a worthy upgrade of my LSR305, and I still live in small room in dorm. And I keep an LSR305 as backup since it is still decent and so cheap that selling them is not worthy. I built the LX521.4 since I have a chance to hear them personally and for the type of music reproduction I want, it is a bargain when diy. Then my own dipole speaker is an act to get my dream speaker without deficiencies due to constrains of LX521.4.

I bought LS50 Meta for my bedroom and when it is not good enough, I back to build my DXT MON182, which both designing and drivers choice is great in my opinion.

What didn't you like about the LS50 Meta? Just curious as I've never heard them.
LS50 Meta is not bad when listening on low SPL with not so much bass content. But on good dynamic range tracks with bass content, they suddenly sounds bloated, and I don't like it. I hope it is enough for my bedroom but turnout I am too optimistic about a 5" midwoofer with just 75 cm2 Sd and less than 3mm xmax needing to do both bass and midrange in coaxial operation. I am lucky since LS50 Meta is a well-known speakers, so I can sell them fast without loss. Then I build a pair of DXT-MON 182, which has great 6.5" midwoofer with 131 cm2 Sd and 4mm xmax and live happily.

How exactly do we define a pair of speakers?
The easy definable that I currently own are Ino Audio piP and Tangent Evo E4. But then I have a pair of DIY subs as well which very much is a pair of speakers. Also have a pair of Dynaudio drivers that I'm going to build a pair of back speakers of sort.
So I currently own four pair, but I answered two because that's how I assume the definition is :)
Though while writing this I realise I do have a pair of Alfaton Alfa 1 still at my parents, an old pair of swedish hifi speakers from the 70s that I inherited from my grandmother, so it's actually three pairs even if I voted two.

Buy I've also owned these (but haven't bought all of them myself).
Audio Pro A2.14
Dynavoice Challenger M-85
Dynavoice Challenger S-6
Ljudia 2x10" something
Some pair of old swedish speakers
Pioneer bookshelves that came with my teenage stereo

I'm planing to build a pair of MEH that I'm hoping will be my end game speakers, but then it would be fun with a pair of floor to ceiling line arrays, but that would be in the distant future.

I also have a somewhat ancient REL Studio subwoofer, bought when Richard E Lloyd still owned the company and made in Wales before he sold up to a foreign company. I only use it in a basic 5.1 system for listening to surround sound films though the speakers are incorrectly positioned so the Audyssey setup is probably a bit of a bodge ;)
It reminds me I also have 3 Meridian M33 surround speakers and have replaced the front centre channel one with a Genelec 8341, I forgot the surround stuff earlier.
