First timer here, I'm looking for some guidance generating my FRDs for a 3-way but I have doubts i'm doing it correctly. First time using the Umik-1 & REW & XSim. I'm following the sticky post from napilopez to generate my FRDs using REW.
Question: When designing a crossover, how important is it that the FRDs of the different drivers are "in-phase" or "time aligned" (not sure of the correct terminology). For example, I understand the Z-offset of the drivers are different. If mic location is not-moved between measurements then the Z-offset should be baked into the phase information, right? So I could load that up into XSim and not put any delays on my drivers there and get proper summation, right? - Or alternatively - if it was not possible to measure the drivers using the same mic position, then the timing of the phase would need to be time aligned to 0 between all 3 FRDs before exporting, am I right?
For reference, in REW I am using a second audio channel for timing reference, since I believe that would capture the timing instead of using "No timing reference", and "Set t=0 at IR start"
Second question:
My phase chart is wrapping across the chart. I gather that this is due to a fixed time delay. Should I be using the Actions -> Estimate IR Delay -> Shift IR feature? There is also an option to "Shift IR and update timing offset." What is best practice?
Finally:
How do I time align all 3 FRDs? In which case I would then type in a driver Z-offset in XSim.
Apologies, just trying to learn, thanks!
