How do I properly connect Yamaha HS7, Scarlett Solo, Atom Amp 2, and HD6XX?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up my audio gear and need some help with connections. My current setup includes:

  • Yamaha HS7 monitors
  • Focusrite Scarlett Solo (4th gen)
  • JDS Labs Atom Amp 2
  • Sennheiser HD6XX headphones

I need to switch often between the HS7 and the HD6XX, what's the correct and most efficient way to wire everything together so I can switch between monitors and headphones easily without unplugging cables?

Thanks in advance for any help

For this use case, the Atom Amp's feature where Line out only works once you plug out your headphones works totally against you.

I'd replace the Atom Amp with an L30 II, which has an easy toggle switch on the front so you can keep everything plugged in.

Connect Atom Amp 2 to Scarlett Solo headphone out with a corresponding cable / adapter combo (either input can be used). Headphones can be turned off with the source selection on the Atom Amp then. Turn off speakers by turning Output knob down.

That's about as good as it's going to get.

Thank you so much, everything works perfectly, may i ask you if it introduce noise or other problems? I can continue using this setup safely?

You should obviously be using a somewhat sensible combination of Scarlett headphone volume and Atom Amp gain and volume. I would start with the Scarlett HP out at maximum and then see where the Atom Amp volume ends up at low gain. If normal listening volume is reached below 10 o'clock, back off on the Scarlett output until the same level has shifted to 10-11 o'clock.

You cannot overdrive the Atom Amp input in low gain - maximum 0 dBFS output level on the Scarlett headphone out should be about +12 dBu or ~3.1 Vrms, only about 1/3 of what the input could take. It would be possible in high gain, but even then a relatively modest decrease in output level (maybe 2-3 o'clock?) would get things back into the green.
