How can I achieve a "warm", neutral sound with bookshelf speakers?

The room is very important, but that Cambridge may be the culprit in this case.
Bookshelves speakers usually are not very efficient and need a lot of power, even at low volume, some amplifiers don't do it right..
If you really like those speakers you can demo a real integrated, anything from Denon or Marantz will do, and also if the speakers are new give them some time to break in..

The Topaz may be the worst amplifier ever made, or it doesn't matter?

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. Source is an Oppo HA-2 DAC playing FLAC files.

So you have a Oppo HA-2 DAC, Cambridge Audio Topaz AM-10 and Castle Warwick bookshelf speakers, what is the USB DAC connected to exactly and what program do you have for playback?
