Horrible Crackling from Topping E1x2

View attachment 416137

Given that the crackling is most severe when opening/loading/moving a window or during games, I would be inclined to believe it's some sort of PC problem. I'll try running it off my phone and a charger now to see if that results in anything.
Doesn't it has WASAPI exclusive option for the input device ?If it does choose that and if the drop down menu has something like Microphone other than default, use that.
Also check the Monitor mix at the Topping software to be in the middle.

I may have misunderstood the problem.
Is the problem "pushing out -1dB but incoming signal is only -20dB" ?
In that case, try adjusting the ANALOG IN gain (the knob next to the analog input - refer to the arrow in the picture below).

Couldn't figure out how to get it working on my phone. Tried powering it off a phone charger too. Seemed like it made a difference at first, but for some reason the loud crackling still comes back intermittently while listening to music (not watching videos?) and interacting with windows. Incredibly frustrated at this point.

At some point I must've disabled exclusive in the Windows settings, trying that again now that it's re-enabled but it hasn't made a difference.

Even when I adjust that, it never goes beyond -18.

Oh! I'm out of ideas at this point.

I can only suggest to test the E1x2 with a totally different PC/laptop to see if the problem follows the E1x2, or it does not.
After that you can make an informed decision to keep or return.

I am also out of ideas. The only thing left now is to wait for the ferrite cable to arrive, although at this point I have low expectations.

Smells like a DPC latency issue. Please run LatencyMon and give us a rundown of your system, and check Device Manager for what IRQ your GPU is on (it should be negative, indicating MSI mode). nVidia GPUs in particular can be IRQ hogs, but you can also run into trouble with "hiccups" from overzealous RAM timings / clocks (not entirely uncommon at 3600+ on AM4).

LatencyMon gave green across the board. The ferrite cable came in but to no avail.

I'm running an R7 3700X and Sapphire Radeon RX5700 XT with 32GB of RAM on a B450 motherboard.

I tested the interface on my laptop, and it was almost entirely perfect for the few hours I used it there. The laptop also uses AMD CPU + GPU. So there's something it isn't liking on my computer for some reason.

Good to know E1x2 is working fine with your laptop. Yeah it still doesn’t solve the problem with your PC.

How old is the BIOS version you are running on this board? Let's just say AMD had some issues that needed to be sorted out (which for the most part they have, though if you still get fTPM-related stuttering you may need to resort to an external TPM). You want something from roughly May 2022 onwards. Whatever was on there when the system was new is probably not going to cut it.

As an aside, the RX5000 series has a bit of a reputation for being finicky in terms of power, apparently they're a bit light on buffer capacitance.

Just went through and updated the BIOS and chipset. Haven't tested it much tonight because it's late and I'm exhausted, but just from some very brief testing I noticed that I did not have the problem BEFORE installing the Topping drivers, but after installing the Topping drivers and restarting the issue came back up again briefly. The issue here is that for whatever reason, Spotify fails to play music when using the default drivers before installing the drivers from Topping's website.

Not sure what TPM is but the BIOS and chipset versions are now post-2022. My laptop uses an RX 5600M, so I am doubting it has to do with that, but certainly wouldn't rule it out.

In short, the issue may lie in whichever drivers are downloaded from Topping's website.

I'll keep using it tomorrow and see if the issues rear their ugly head again.

Nevermind, the issues continued both while using the driver and after uninstalling the program/drivers.

Apologies for the triple post, hopefully this is not premature but I believe the issue may be resolved!

And the kicker... I'm not quite sure how hahah, I believe it had something to do with updating the BIOS, disabling the on-board audio card (which I did the morning following the last post), and only using a short A-C USB cable (instead of C-C or using a second cable for power).

I have not run it through my DAW yet, but given a good day of typical usage and a successful session of practicing guitar through both the monitor and playback without issues, I would like to believe things are all set for now.

Thank you for everyone who threw their two cents in over the course of the holidays, it has been much appreciated! Hopefully there will be no updates from now.
