Honey.... I'am home

I just read an article where parents are teaching their young kids (various ages) how to use ChatGPT etc to "give them a leg up in life" (if you understand that expression).

They should be outside climbing trees, making forts, downhill racers, falling off jungle gyms etc not being dumbed down via AI.

Computer skills are worth teaching kids (I benefitted from messing with computers since an early age) but I if you teach your kid ChatGPT and nothing else, I think we are looking at a totally new concept in education - actively teaching someone general incompetence.

You won't ever convince the people you were arguing with / attempting to educate but at least some of the thousands of people reading rather than participating will learn something that will save them squandering thousands on a scam. If it's some consolation.

That's why I used to do it! (Though not really necessary here, but in other situations.) I didn't let ignorance run rampant. I’ve had long discussions with many people like the ones OP encountered. I never tried to convince them -no, they’re beyond persuasion. The point is to ensure their claims and advice don’t go unchallenged. I did it hoping that others -guests, silent readers -would engage in a bit more critical thinking and make their own judgments about what’s right and wrong in the discussion.

I limit myself to when someone actively asks for advice. Ofc my advice is radically different from the usual 'Buy a better DAC and cables or a magic box' and comes in for some flak. People don't hold back. But if you're taking flak, you're over the target. :D
