Startup X1 will soon introduce a $20,000 home robot. Maybe they will make a yardwork one that can get dirty?

I'll buy one of these if A) it actually works the way you'd hope (as in, it does the laundry, dishes, and vacuuming without breaking anything or screwing up) and B) all the processing is done on-device or at least on-premises. Like hell I'm going to have a robot spy for some greasy VC / PE company in my house. Not to mention the remote (or maybe inevitable) but horror-movie-level possibility of having it get hacked.

Smartphones and such are bad enough, but having roving cameras watching me 24/7 is a hard no. Alexa was a hard no, this is a way harder no if anything is happening "in the cloud".

I mean it's a joke, but it's not. Look at what Israel did with the exploding pagers. Extend that principle to any foreign power that wants to invade or just attack a country, then extend that to humanoid robots with access to kitchen knives, hand tools, or even firearms, if you own them.

Yeah, nope, my robot vacuum can have internet access but not my Rosie The Robot.

Some people really don't watch enough sci-fi to know when they're in trouble...

My son age 9-10? was chosen and got payed $500 for a hour to evaluate a concept of home robot friend. Three designers pitched the idea a two foot tall friend that would talk with him to discuss issues he was having, be a partner in games, help him when sad, etc. My wife and I were allowed to sit with everyone in our living room and listen while the interview took place but were asked not to be involved until the end. At the end we were shown some concept renderings and was so elated when our boy said "the whole idea seems a little creepy". We figured out later that it was probably the fact that he was an only child for his inclusion, as another parent of a girl with basically the same demographic as us had the exact experience as us, but she kind of liked the idea. This topic put me in a time machine and he is thirty years old now.
