As a frequent reader of ASR content, sometimes find that a thread or forum topic is getting tiresome or has taken an undesirable turn. If you think the content is in violation of ASR policy, you should use the Report feature to request the moderators to review. However, if the content seems valid but no longer interests you, you have a couple of options that can filter content more to your liking.

I suspect most folks have found the Ignore feature if you find a particular member's posts are not to your liking. A broader filter can be applied to a thread or a forum topic area too. For example. am set to watch the entire Speaker Review, Measurements and Discussion topic area as shown by the button on the lower right of this screenshot:

If I want to stop watching a topic, clicking on the Watch button will toggle it to Unwatch. This feature also applies to specific threads.

If you comment on a thread, it may automatically be set to Watch and you will likely get notifications for every post to the thread. Unwatch will prevent these notifications, or you may want to change the setting in your Account Preferences.

Hope this helps!

This seems to be a common issue on forums and has turned me off for years. It's like teaching people to use the search function.

What happened to your "Moderator" badge @RickS?

I found moderating to require more of my time and energy to do well than I originally anticipated. This began affecting my other project plans...

I appreciate the member and staff support I received but did not realize how moderating would change my ability to contribute to ASR as I have as a member and so I turned in my badge. While would not discourage others from moderating, would recommend they approach the role as you would any serious employment situation. If I had, likely would have made a different initial decision.

... like Michael Jordan retiring as the GOAT... and thinking that hitting a Major League curveball shouldn't take too long to master. Thanks for the effort Rick (and Mike).

I don't know how anyone could turn down these pay and benefits .

I was wondering about that. You are such a avid and important contributor to this forum and I thought making you a MOD would encroach upon all you do and displease you too. :D

Having chosen to watch a number of forums is there a way of displaying all the posts in those forums in one list? IE have the "new posts" list only show threads from watched forums?

If you click "Filters", check "Watched content" and "Save as default" and click "Filter" button, does it do what you want?

Thanks, that's it. I had to play around a little - the trick is, having watched some forums and set the filter to only show watched content, you need to bookmark the "new posts" URL:

ie you can't click on that url and then bookmark where you end up, otherwise you're sort of "frozen" at that point in time.

The trouble with this is that you will miss all new threads (and revived threads that you missed first time).

I would rather have something that doesn't seem to currently be available: the ability to block specific threads.

There's always the idea that no one thread , topic or indeed forum has to be for everyone. No one person should feel entitled to the point where if something dosnt please them it must be reported or altered .

This Is but a discussion medium, we are not curing Disease or enabling world peace . Contributing members should be aware of the limits of this medium while also checking in on themselves regarding just what they are trying to achieve through their expressions , are they enjoying themselves , is the experience positive for them . One can simply pick and chose what to read and what to comment on .

There's many many more times the number of people satisfied to just read than contribute and we shouldn't lose sight of the value a forum like this has for them, the vast majority , the silent majority!

It's all too easy to get distracted and lose sight of the bigger picture . Don't sweet the minority, you can't please everyone.

You certainly can't help those that won't help themselves or take responsibility for themselves and their online habits .

I find that most threads get it all out in 10 pages. There are a good number that stay large but those have a theme with large and ever changing discussion or content like music, humor, audio deals, photos, etc. or particular product that you own and are learning from others its nuances. Usually the tech and review discussions burn out, get redundant or two members can't let the other have the last word. So once I get to the 10-15 page zone I usually UNWATCH and occasionally I morbidly jump in to see why or if things have changed if it is still popping up on What's New. How the Vinyl Renascence thread stays alive is beyond me.

Well it's sad to see you leave as a mod so soon @RickS, you had the potential to become a great one. You're an honest bloke, with authority

edits for typos
