Powerful amps (hypex based like the buckeye's) seem to be suggested for a lot of speakers these days. However, I would also like loudness control on an amp (like the loudness control yamaha amps have).

Is there a somewhat budget friendly, yet powerful, class D amp with well executed loudness control?

A "loudness control" (which adjusts frequency response according to the volume) or a regular volume control?

Loudness controls are rare these days and you probably won't find one on a "power amp."

Typically the preamp (or whatever is feeding the power amp) functions as the "control center". Some power amps have volume controls but they are usually intended as "gain" controls rather than everyday volume controls.

You won’t find the same ‘loudness’ feature on these amplifiers as in brands like Marantz amplifiers, receivers etc.

I think RME DACs have a variable loudness feature based on equal loudness curves.

Meridian Audio’s DSP active speakers all have this feature.

It’s strange to me that there aren’t more pre-amps with this feature but I think it’s because whilst it’s a simple and very effective concept, it’s quite difficult to setup correctly for a non-technical user. This is because we have to consider varying source gain (including recording levels), amplifier power, speaker efficiency, listening distance and listener preference for the strength of the contouring effects.

Yamaha, Denon and Marantz AVR offer loudness control. This is done properly, based on acoustic measurements of playback sound level. It works quite nice, unless input source level is realy wrong.

Camilladsp have loudness control linked to volume, was modeled on RME behavoir
