Hifi Rose RS520

This streaming amplifier claims to be 250 wpc at 8 ohms and the same 250 at 4 ohms. Is that possible - and if so what does it potentially tell us about performance etc?

Hmmm - using a discrete opamp after the DAC chip for better performance usually has a rather detrimental effect. I'd rather stay clear if such unfounded claims.

250W @ 8 and 4 Ohm is possible with either a very soft power supply or a current limiter in the output stage or power supply.

Thanks. I wasn’t expecting it to double down to 500 but you always see a significant increase in power so wondering why the engineers implemented this design. Always a compromise but what’s the benefit?

It’s a class D circuit so not sure that’s it

честно говоря, они там хитрят, пишут эту смесь RS150 +RA180, но в последнем случае есть режимы обычный и мостовой и вес больше, хотя это просто усилитель, а здесь это стример+п + усилитель и при этом вес меньше... скорее всего по усилителю там упрощение относительно RA180.
Хотя формат в целом шикарный, за этим будущее, особенно когда все хорошего качества внутри и цена если станет доступнее...

HiFi Rose specifies the RA280's maximum power as 250W into both 8 ohms and 4 ohms; these powers are equivalent to 24.15dBW and 21.15dBW. We define clipping as the point at which the THD+noise reaches 1%. The HiFi Rose amplifier exceeded the specified power into 8 ohms with a 1kHz signal, clipping with both channels driven at 300Wpc into 8 ohms (24.8dBW, fig.5). Fig.6 shows how the THD+N varied with power into 4 ohms, again with both channels driven. The amplifier delivers 305W at 0.053% THD+N but appeared to go into protection mode above that power.

я не сомневаюсь что мощности в 520 модели с головой, но 280 модель не такая же, она лучше. в 520 модели упрощенная версия усилителя, посмотрите внимательно на фото внутренностей RA280 и RS520 ..
