I’m excited for this (not that I hear the difference between 256 AAC and “hi-fi“ under normal listening conditions).

It wouldn't be surprising. Apple wouldn't care about Tidal and Qobuz - too small to matter - but Spotify's announcement will have gotten their attention. Apple being Apple though, they could just try to couple the hifi service to specific Apple hardware.
