owner of hiby r6 gen3 here, recently there was an update again (! check out my previous post) that introduced the ability to use the dap as a usb dac with onboard peq. so it's able to run the eq profiles saved on the device for anything you need on whatever.

you can also run the plugins which include convolution for any hrtf profiles you want and/or sound field for crossfeed on the dac side.

I think this is the only dac that has convolution and PEQ that doesn't require it to be on the source side for it to work. actually a lowkey update on the patch notes, but its pretty darn impressive to me
i wish there was a dac (not a dap in usb dac mode) that could do these things, would actually be a really convenient feature if you work out of several machines like I do

I've had the opposite experience with their iOS app connecting to a Hiby R2 Gen II player (the cheap one). It seems that they've cleaned up the connection issues, but it doesn't load any album art or artist photos, I can't sort albums by Date Added (i.e.: show me my newest stuff first), the gear icon next to the connected device doesn't work among other things.... and scratch the first comment... it just disconnected and won't reconnect.

Can't say our iOS app is anything like our best work.

Not to mention that none of the DSP options he praised are available on the iOS version.

The recent dongles and DACs (not sure about DAP) from Fiio also offer the device's PEQ; I also love this feature. I can plug a dedicated DAC with configured PEQ into anything I want to play music, and I do not need to care about the source itself anymore, so any OSs, any devices, any platforms, any applications. I think this feature should be the new standard for all brands :D

If you're just after PEQ, sure. I'm personally after more than that. Usually room simulation convolution and dynamics enhancement.

Well there's Wavelet on Android but it's not standalone and it's paid for additional futures. It's a long story behind Hiby software for DAP's and smartphones. In short some things didn't go at first, a part of third party manufacturers departed and went their own way like FiiO. Never the less from similar branch it's rather polished and good working at least the most part. Last time I messed with it it had problems to keep up with DLNA server's (and in generally networking section whose bad). The streaming choice is also rather limited. Hiby Music is meant to be a compromise from a beginning limited to headphones and back compatible with (simple and small) DAP's. From basic GEQ to MSAB effect's (in pure sublime audiophile phrase style) and limited (basic filters only) 10x PEQ. It has Hiby link (BT interconnect between two devices) that's handy to control DAP playback while it sits in your pocket from phones screen.

The dongle and standalone DAC market is vibrant and dynamic. I am eager to see Hiby’s next-generation devices that promise industry-leading sound quality and cutting-edge technology.

Can't speak to convolution, but for PEQ, this DAC dongle actually has that if I am not mistaken (I don't own one of these):

If you don't need portability, Topping has some desktop DACs with PEQ, like the D50 III and the D90 III Discrete.
