Am not against feedback, I know some is needed, just have my doubts about using huge amounts of it just to get good numbers.

I'm afraid this is just another part of audiophile folklore, based on falsehoods. Probably stemming from the fact that moderate amounts of negative feed back can increase distortion. This goes away with higher amounts. So in fact "huge" amounts (correctly implemented) is likely to be better than "moderate" amounts. (as described by Putzeys in his paper)

But - having said that - A warm welcome to the forum. A great place to learn about this topic as well as many others.

Is this a good time to come out and admit I also play vinyl and find a good bottle of red or a nice bourbon to be conducive to a most pleasant listening session?

Me too - although Bourbon is replaced by Irish or Scottish (or even Welsh) Whiskey

My one wine regret is discovering the delights of French reds just before I retired, putting most of them now out of my reach.
Ditto for Japanese whisky.

I know you have some very good wine down under, but do you have anyone making whisky?

We do, in Tasmania mainly. Apparently some of it is world class.
I just have a preference for American whiskey and bourbon and especially Japanese whiskey, although the latter is now a rare indulgence for me.

What's Japanese whiskey like, never tasted it. I've drank a bunch of Sake but this is something different right?

It's like everything Japanese. Overpriced, and subtle to the point that it's bland.

John hi, I was living in Medowie just outside Newcastle, moved up the road a bit to Mondrook. I had a few GTG's with like minded folk mostly in our 70's so you are not alone.

I've tried a few Japanese whiskys and wasn't particularly impressed...but then I like nice peaty single malt.....the Japanese whisky I had was more like highlands style scotch.

Alcoholic beverage is like most things in life, different people have different tastes. Personally I do not like Scotch and detest Irish whisky.
My 2 favourite affordable japanese whiskies are Fujisan 40 in the blue label bottle and Hibiki.
My fav of all timewas an American whisky, william larue or something like that, about $1000 Aus per bottle here and now seemingly unobtainable.
Had it once only a few years ago.
I am convinced it’s what God drinks at the end of a big day.

Mostly I stick to Jack Daniels Black and if I'm feeling really upscale I may grab some Makers Mark..
My Marantz AV20 Pre-Pro put a serious dent in my drinkin budget. LOL

Never really got into the bourbons, some are pretty decent though just prefer Scotch and Irish Some ryes I do like and they're not comparable to others particularly. Single malt scotches I like have gotten quite expensive but fortunately that's the once in a while treat and prefer our wonderful selection of beer here (Oregon US)

Just noticed the little line re MQA at the bottom.
Yep, I hated the thought of MQA, never bought anything that had it.
Then I picked up a barely used A&K SP1000 DAP.
It had some MQA files in it’s onboard storage.
Couldn’t resist to try one. Then another.
Aaarrrggghhh!!!
They actually sound excellent.
Don’t know why.
But excellent.

I've heard some very nice sounding MP3's, Ogg Vorbis, AAC's and other lossy codecs too.
Imagine how good they would sound if you had all the missing pieces???

There is no reason they should - unless they are made from a better master.


If it is the same master, and level matched then differences are inaudible. Which is why MQA and all the money poured into it has been such a rip off.

Then that is mastering - or perceptive bias.
