Evening all.

I’m struggling with hiss / white noise in my setup. Kit list and connections are:

Eversolo DMP-A6 Streamer / Pre-amp - Balanced XLR to:

dB-Mark CXA48+ DSP / Crossover - Balanced XLR to:

KJF Audio MA-01 4 way power amp (x2) - Standard Speaker Cables to:

DIY Hybrid 3 way speakers.

I have a background hiss / white noise that does not change with gain or volume.

All components are connected via 4 gang extension lead to the same outlet.

The setup is in the same location as the virgin media modem, netgear router and a gigabit switch but I’m assuming that kind of kit would induce RF noise, squeals etc, rather than a background hiss.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Your gear seem to clear CD quality of their own, on a chain though...

I would check gain staging very carefully there, including quantization noise from filters/bad filter stacking/digital clipping, etc.
Have you recorded the noise to see its spectrum?

I would disconnect each piece of equipment and reconnect one at time , hopefully you can identify the component causing the hiss.

How is output gain set in the DSP? There is no spec on output levels, but I suspect it can probably dish out a fair bit more than you need, especially since all your drivers seem to be rated at least 100 dB/W/m. Try like 12dB less on all channels, and if that doesn't help, passive attenuators may be needed.

Yep.

step1

Connect speakers to power amps.
Do not connect anything else to the amp.
Short the inputs of the amp.
Audible noise ?

Then remove the shorts on the input of the amp.
audible noise (maybe some hum) ?

step2:
connect dB-Mark CXA48+ DSP / Crossover and short its inputs.
Any noise ?

When there still is no noise start connecting each device (powered/active) until you find the culprit.
