Help With Digital Playback Issues

I need some guidance and suggestions from the group. I have digitized most of my music collection (3Tb) and stored it on a Western Digital My Cloud EX2 Ultra NAS. I run it through an Eversolo DMP A8. All was working fine until just recently when the digital signal intermittently drops out, or drops a track entirely. I have rebooted the A8, checked all connections and system configurations but the problem persists. The NAS is connected to my router and is on my local network. I have run the NAS directly to the A8 bypassing the network and the problem persists. When I run my CD player through the A8 DAC section, there is no problem, playback is perfect. I also put the online radio station Radio Paradice on the system through the A8 and the problem returns. I don't know whether the problem resides with the A8, or my ASUS router. The A8 is connected to the router by a CAT five cable, the connectors of which appear to be fine. I don't know how to trouble shoot this mess any further.

Might be an issue with the NAS.
If it has a web interface , check if it has a performance monitor. Check the I/O.
Likewise use any PC and pull some date from the NAS, check the throughput

Let's see.

NAS --(direct)--> DAC: intermittent signal dropout
Internet radio --(network)--> DAC: intermittent signal dropout

If it was the NAS, then you wouldn't get the problem if you're not using it. If it was the router, you wouldn't get signal dropout when you connect the NAS directly to the DAC. As far as i'm concerned both NAS and router would seem to be working OK.

There are two remaining culprits:

- bad network cable
- bad network input on your A8 (since CDP to A8 works fine, presumably you are using a different input).

To test, swap the network cable. If the problem persists, there is something wrong with the network input on your A8. Try using wi-fi.
