Hello All,

I live in Paris, France. I dig and collect vinyl records, I listen to music mainly with my turntable (Classic Technics MK2), dirrectly connected to a pair of active speakers (Adam A5, I have those monitoring speakers as I produce music times to times). I listen music of s well through a lossless streaming service or playing my flac files collection.

I want to build a proper system, so I am thinking about buying an amplifier and later a pair of speakers.

I want a amplifier capable to power speaker of around 100w as I live in a flat and I want to stay friendly with my neighbours .
But I really want a amplifier capable to be give honor to my vinyl collection (jazz, reggae, hip-hop, electronic, soul and rock).

I did start to look but I am a bit lost.
I found one that I like because it seems to have good reviews regarding the sound and features, and I like its vintage look : Yamaha A-S1200.
It is a bit expensive for me, but I could do it, even if I thought my budget max is 2000 euros.

Could you please advice me and tell me in which direction to look, as I don’t plan to buy an amp every year , the one that I will buy will be with me at least for the next 15 years.
I am quite demanding regarding the quality of the sound.

Thank you a lot in advance for your precious advices.
Fred

I think that you will not find too much support here for ideas like an amplifier having synergy with vinyl. Really doesn't happen and absolutely should never happen.

Have you considered sticking with active speakers, and replacing the ones you have with something better? For your budget you could get Neumann KH120 mk II speakers for instance. 145 watts for the woofer and a separate 100 watts for the tweeter.

You are going to be replacing speakers anyway. Also, my suggestion, and a quite strong one is decide upon your speakers first, and then pick the right amp for it. Speakers make the most difference, and picking an amp first limits your speaker choice.

Thank you for your message
I really want to replace my active speakers and get passive ones as I found ennoying to have to play with the volume directly from the speakers and not to be able to eq the sound…plus I have other elements (K7 player, cd player and tuner that I would like to connect as well)

That is fine. I still strongly suggest choosing speakers first. Once you know what speakers you will use, everything else is easy.

Ditto on speakers as the first and most important consideration. Also, electronics when measuring well will have less affect on the sound so also consider what features and connectivity you need now and into the future.

Thank you for this advice and this schema which is for sure very relevant :)
Therefore I should start to think about speakers first…that sounds good to me

The new Kef Concerto are very, very good with objective measurements and opinions without breaking the bank for a 3 way hifi speakers.

You can consider these in your list.

The Yamaha as801 is more than enough and you can have both (amplifier+speakers) inside your budget

Thank you!
Actually, yes now I need to define in which direction to look regarding speakers, knowing that my criterias are quite simple: bookshelf if possible but with no need to get an extra sub to get some deep bass.

Thank you in advance if you have any suggestions

Maybe its other gear you need to achieve such flexibility. Once you set up the pre-amp you shouldn't need to adjust volume at your speakers.

Reading the forum, i have listed those speakers:
Nef Q concerto Meta
BMR Monitor

Any other suggestions ?
Merci :)
