I am trying to integrate my REL T/9i sub with my KEF LS60 speakers and it is proving a technical challenge to say the least. Seems I need to be a maths wizard!

The main problem is that there are controls on both the sub and on the KEF app.

So, I have connected the REL to the "sub" (phono) connection on the KEF.

On the back of the REL, I have "Hi/Low level" (essentially a volume) and "Crossover" (from 30Hz to 120hz).

On the app, if I use my own profile, I can adjust "speaker/subwoofer balance" and "subwoofer volume". Even that basic mode is confusing because I don't know where to set the controls on the sub itself.

In the KEF expert mode, I'm completely lost, being asked to select "High pass frequency" (50 - 120 Hz) and "sub out low pass frequency" (40 - 250 Hz) and then "gain".

I know there will always be an element of fine tuning to taste / room, but can anyone please advise on at least a starting point?

Thanks.

The normal approach would be to set the rel for low level input. Crossover to maximum. Setting the rel gain/volume to around the mid point then use the LS60 app. In the app I would start crossing over at around 80hz, but that may be a bit of trail and error.

Probably best to acoustically measure, look at where the Kef’s bass begins to diminish ( F3) adjust and then re-measure.
Using Kef’s own subs the existing templates seemed to work pretty well, just reinforcing the very low end .

Agreed.

High pass frequency is the frequency below which the output of the LS60 is curtailed.
Sub out low pass frequency is the frequency above which the output of the sub is curtailed.
Unless there is a special situation, these should be set to the same value.
Setting them the same and adjusting up/down is the equivalent of Speaker/subwoofer balance in the non-Expert mode.
Gain is the equivalent of Subwoofer Volume in the non-Expert mode.

I would start with 80 hz low pass. Also, the high/low level isn't really a volume. For some reason, rel likes to tell people to connect their subs with a high level (ie speaker wire) connection (a terrible idea btw), and the toggle would indicate if you are using the high level connection (speaker wire) or low level (line level/RCA). If anything, the high level would actually give you less gain.

There is no high-level (speaker level) output on the LS60.

Thanks for the advice. i have been experimenting (it can get very confusing/frustrating! I should make notes to record what changes I have made...)

There is an option in the KEF app to disable "High pass frequency". Is disabling this supposed to simplify the setup process?

No. It is an option to add a sub without rolling off the low end of the LS60. Not generally recommended.
