Help requested for buying/assembling a system with the Dali Spektor II

Thanks again!

I understand your point about the possibilities.

The question of separate devices is a good one to think about. Do you have the WiiM Ultra or any WiiM? I think it's interesting to have the possibility of the player and, if necessary, just changing the AMP/Speakers in the future.

I saw that antcollinet answered it in #10.

Subwoofer as such. It depends. Maybe you would like it or you think it is unnecessary to have subs. You can test that. You can get a decent used subwoofer for around $150. Doesn't have to be a super subwoofer just for you to test. If you like it keep it, if not sell it. :)

It is an advantage if you have an amplifier with subwoofer output. Most subwoofers have a built-in amplifier, so just plug it in (RCA from sub out on your amp) and try it out. BUT with that said, I should mention that it can be tricky to get the sub and speakers to blend together in a good way. That's a topic for a new thread. In fact, there are quite a few such sub-speaker integration threads here on ASR.
Anyway, if you succeed in that, a couple of small bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer (even better multiple subs) is a really good combo.:)
Hello!

Ok, so I don't have to worry about the subwoofer power since it's separate (in most cases).

I'll look into the combinations (and the problems), there's probably something already rationalised about it here on ASR.

Thanks.

The WiiM Amp Pro has a subwoofer output too, and digital input for a CD player.

Your choice between WiiM Amp or a WiiM Ultra+ Amp. You get the same functionality but the latter allows you to upgrade the Amp later.
The WiiM Amp Pro have 60W/channel. Do you think that's enough for a good listen to the Spektor II?

Regarding the outputs: excellent question about the subwoofer, I've read that it has SPDIF, as I've seen a wide range of CD/Blu-ray players with coaxial, do you think it's worth a coaxial -> spdif converter?

Thank you.

Getting sound from an active, i.e. subwoofer with its own built-in amplifier is not difficult if you have an amplifier with sub output.

Since it's mentioned in the thread, WiiM Amp Pro, I'll use it as an example. You have connected the speakers and it works. Okay, now you plug in an RCA cable, in the WiiM Amp Pro sub out:

Then that RCA cable from the WiiM Amp Pro sub out into line in/input on the subwoofer. Two different Audio Pro subwoofers , just to show what it looks like:

Plug the power cord from the subwoofer into the power outlet, switch on the subwoofer. Then when you listen to music, you turn the volume control on the subwoofer so you get just enough bass. :)

Then, if you are really going to achieve a top notch integration, so that the sub and speakers blend really well in terms of sound, it can be a challenge. To only get sound out of a subwoofer as such, however, is just a cable and press the power button and turn the volume.:)

I've got a DAC connected to my PC and play everything from there. No CD player, but EQ and room correction on the PC. The DAC feeds an amp and a headphone amp. The amp has got a line-level sub out, which feeds the woofer. So very different setup to your idea :)

The maximum power of your Amp does not matter as much as the power you need. You say that your listening space is small, how far from the speakers will you sit?
There are plenty of online calculators (I like the Crown Audio ones) that will show you how much power you need to achieve a volume (dB SPL) at that distance.
If you only need 30/40 W (quite likely) then it just doesn't matter if your Amp can provide more power because you won't use it.

There are other arguments for more power, but they mostly relate to future upgrades and bigger rooms.

Coax to Optical converters are sensible - SMSL make good ones that are well reviewed here

Thank you for all of you taking the time to help me with the system, I had already registered on other HIFI forums but in none of them did I succeed (10% of the help I had here with you). I am VERY THANKFUL.

I've been considering everything for days and have come to this conclusion:

At the moment I want something to put in the living room (there are two metres between the furniture and my sofa), so:

* 1 x WiiM Ultra (with digital coaxial cable to the CD/BluRay player and all the other conveniences it already has).
* 2 x Fosi V3 Mono or 1 x Fosi ZA3 (to start with) and, if I notice any distortion or need to raise the level of the system, I'll buy one more and use it as mono.
* Dali Spektor II.

Note: I have doubts about the quality of the ZA3 in relation to the V3 mono, as the two are almost the same price, and I don't know if the ZA3 is better on its own. At least in the comments here, the V3 Mono is in the Excellent category, and the ZA3 is a little lower. Is this because of stereo use?

In the future, I'm going to buy a (dedicated) DAC with headphones for experimenting with DSD and so on. My listening will focus on enhancing my experience, so I'll connect everything to my computer (in my office).

With that, I'll have all the possibilities we talked about earlier.

What do you think?
