Hello! Sorry for the dumb question  but I'm wondering if this is a feasible thing to do?

I only have one decent stereo speaker system which is currently connected to my computer with the diagram below:

I would like to connect a record player to the speakers, but I'm not really sure if this is an advisable workaround? Only one input will be used at a time, and I can also unplug all connections with the other input splitter if needed. I'm thinking about a splitter since the subwoofer box is under my desk and it will be a back-breaking endeavor to plug and unplug everything there every time hehe

Thank you very much for reading and all suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Hi.

Firstly, does your turntable have a built in phono preamp with a line level output? If not, you'll need a phono preamp, or a peamp with one built in.

How do you currently control the volume, via the computer, or the UM2? In any, case I think you will need something with a volume controll between the turntable and the subwoofer input.

If your turntable has an RIAA preamp built in (most do not) then you can switch between it and the turntable using an RCA selector switch. You cannot have two sources connected to your amp as shown. One or the other. Splitter cannot be used.

Thank you for your answers!

I'm so sorry I have no idea if it has a phono preamp :( but here's a pic of what's going on at the back of it!

Since the speakers are connected to the computer at the moment, I use windows or UM2 for the volume. The subwoofer also has it's own knobs which I can use.

The turntable also works fine without the need to be plugged to something else when directly connected to the speakers :) Does this mean that it has a preamp?

I also got a product manual and it says something about the PHONO Equalizer. Is this the preamp? :)

Once again, thank you for the patience and for answering! if I have a preamp, is it safe to buy the RCA selector switch at this point? :)
Thank you!

It would seem that your turntable does have an inbuilt phono preamp, so the signal from the turntable is line level, the same as a CD player, tuner, etc., so you don't need a separate phono preamp or PHONO equalizer.

However, I don't think you can use a splitter as you have indicated and you will need a means of switching between two or more inputs and I think you will want to be able to control the the volume of the turntable without having to use the volume on the subwoofer, under the desk. Effectilvely a preamplifier.
