***SOLVED Using phone settings, but cannot determine what setting fixed the problem. When I put the 4 settings I changed back to their previous settings, I still had proper Stereo sound. The 2 most likely candidates were enabling "Adapt Audio" which includes giving yourself a hearing test (both ears independently and enabling "UHQ When Using Headphones." Neither sounds like it could/should control whether I get sound in 1 or 2 ears. The other 2 settings I changed had nothing to do with stereo or mono sound, but they were sound related. Tonight was the first time I had seen the UHQ When Using Headphones--it sounds a LOT BETTER with that enabled when using either of the DACs I have with the phone. I've tried to make the sound return to "right ear only" but I can't. I had previously rebooted the phone a couple of times. This time I tried downloading a different music player and played some music with that after messing with settings and got good stereo sound. The other 2 apps also now have good Stereo sound.

THX Onyx DAC from circa 2021. When used with Windows 11 desktop computer, sound is fine with all 3 sets of headphones I own (in-ear, Over Ear, On-ear, all wired with stereo mini-jacks, of course).

When I connect the THX Onyx DAC to my Samsung S22+ phone (about 4 years old, Android system just recently updated to Android 16 AKA Samsung One UI 8.0. When connected to the USB-C port on the Samsung S22+ phone, I get sound only in my right ear. Left ear is silent. All headphones do the same thing--right ear sound only. There is a setting somewhere, might have been Accessibility that allows you to change balance from left to right or center. That is set to center so each ear should have the sound at the same level. I can't find any other settings that could affect this. I tried 2 different apps on my phone with the same result with both Apps... N7 Player and the Samsung Music App (very basic, but functional). Both apps produce sound only in the right ear.

Any ideas what might be causing the issue with sound only in the right ear when using it with my phone?

You sure you're using the right jack type?

Everything works fine on the computer with the same combination of DAC and headphones (all 3 types of headphones used with the phone and the computer). Only the phone is/was having problems. I kept poking away at various audio settings on the phone and I now have sound in both ears--and DANG, it's way better than before. The phone has a USB-C port that the DAC plugs into for external audio. Whatever setting resolved the problem is unknown. When I put the settings I changed back to their previous settings, I still had Stereo audio with the THX DAC. There was a setting for "UHQ Audio when using headphones" I hadn't found before tonight. That had been turned off. I turned that setting ON. I also enabled Adapt Sound that lets you select your age-range (30 or under, 30-60, over 60). The first time you use this, it gives you a hearing test in both ears (one at a time) and you tap a button when you hear a tone and tap a different button when you don't hear a tone. This corrects for normal changes in audio perception as people age. I can't say what made the sound return to normal Stereo, but it's back and sounds better than ever with the the UHQ setting enabled and Adapt Sound enabled.
