Help: I'm surprised I can't find what I want....

To summarize solutions:
There are no solutions from the popular high quality Chinese manufacturers!
1. Chinese switch box ($160 Ebay) with caveats of remote operation, no headphone socket, audio performance, part quality & ability to repair.
2. Schiit Saga 2 ($279) only caveat inability to audition before purchase, restocking fee & return shipping cost but Schiit has a great reputation.
3. NAD C-316BEE V2 ($319) two caveats, the remote & inability to verify replacement remote operation before purchase. I assume BEE has not changed the NAD house sound.
Thanks for everyone's help. This has been very worthwhile. I've certainly learnt a lot since going down this rabbit hole!!

There are several if you replace your $100 DAC with something with a different and better DAC and HP amp in it.

Where have you been? Here's my requirements: at least two single-ended line level inputs, a good quality headphone amp (occasional use only), volume control, single ended outputs, low gain (not passive) & a remote control with: input selection, speaker or headphone output (or automatic sensing of headphones), volume & mute (essential). Input selection, volume & mute indicators would be nice but not essential.

Yes but for less than $200 dollars you get everything by just upgrading to a better DAC+HP Amp. The emphasis seemed to have a desire to use modern Chinese made high quality device not some old preamp that floating all over Ebay and Craigslist. Not only do you get the things you want, you get screen that tells you what source you are on, its digital format, filters etc., Bluetooth to send your music from your phone/tablet to your speakers or your source to BT headphones. This what these guys are making, a one box solution. The only thing holding you back, wanting to use your inexpensive current DAC for some reason and not the one in the one box, modern, highly featured inexpensive quality solution with each and every requirement. But you must have your reasons. Sorry if I misunderstood something, probably the Chinese high quality thing which really isn't a requirement. In my view it was.

I did a comprehensive survey (took copious notes) of all available & the SMSL AO300 fit my needs, I purchased it, listened to it for two weeks & concluded the sound was inferior to my existing system. There are several devices in the AO300 signal chain: Cirrus DAC, opamps, NJW1194 input/volume/tone control & Infineon power amps & I have no way of knowing what was at fault. The sister model A300 (AO300 minus DAC) got a poor review from Amir but people appear to like it. I have an Adcom power amp that I'd like to re-use & will separate out the signal chain, hence this thread.

I've been bugging the guys at Fosi and Aiyima for months to come out with a non-tube preamp to compete with the Schiit product, but they haven't developed anything yet. I think they'd do well if they could offer something with 3-4 inputs and good VC and a remote for, say, $150. But who knows when or if they will. That's why I went ahead and got the Saga. Schiit actually came through to meet a customer need and dropped the price from the previous model to boot.

The other appealing aspect is it having both balanced and RCA outputs. The balanced outputs will be nice if I wind up getting two Gjallarhorns as monoblocks later on, or a Vidar amp.

I have found Schiit customer service to be responsive and helpful. I own two Magni amps, a Modi 3, a little dongle DAC (forget the name) in addition to the Saga...all still working fine...my only gripe so far is a slightly scratchy volume pot when changing volume level on the Magni 3 (minor problem).
