Hi all, hope to get some help with my first set-up.

I stay in a small room (3m x 3m x 2.5m) in Singapore. I am planning to purchase a 2.0 system and add a subwoofer down the road. Currently looking at either getting a new Elac Debut 6.3 (SGD 600) or a used Wharfedale Evo 4.2 for about the same price (SGD600) for a desktop setup. For amp, probably buying an Aiyima A07 pro? Since I mainly play through bluetooth or PC (~SGD 100). I mainly listen to music and watch movie on it from time to time.

Wondering if there are there other options I should consider at around this price point and if the amp would be sufficient to power either of the speakers. Would appreciate any advice, thanks in advance!

I'd recommend buying an AVR (probably used) instead of a stereo amp. AVRs have several advantages:
  • Due to economies of scale, they offer great bang for the buck.
  • They come with an active crossover that allows you to integrate one or multiple subwoofer(s).
  • They give you ~80-100 watts of relatively clean AB power.
  • Some come with competent solutions for room correction, such as Dirac (Onkyo/Pioneer) or Audyssey XT / XT32 (Denon/Marantz). You can even use @OCA's fantastic A1 Acoustica open-source solution room correction with Audyssey XT and XT32 compatible AVRs. FWIW, in my experience, once you have decent speakers and a subwoofer, room correction is the next biggest upgrade -- particularly, in an untreated or accidentally treated room*.
*: Since your room is quadratic, which is far from ideal, you will likely benefit heavily from room correction.
