A follow up question:
Given the limited availability of Schiit and JDS amps in my country, would there be a clear winner for DT990 600 ohm between:
  • Topping L30
  • Topping DX3 Pro
  • Ifi Zen DAC v2
  • Fiio K5 Pro
or should I just go for the better deal?

Go for the one that can supply at least 150mW in 300ohm and has the functionality, looks and price of your choice.

A separate amplifier needs to have a high-gain option with at least +10dB gain.

This post is very good for a noob like me to learn.. thank you everyone here.
DX3 Pro+ = 7.6V = 96mW in 600Ω (sufficient to play loud without EQ)
L30-II = 13V = 280mW in 600Ω so can play 4.6dB louder than the DX3Pro. 10dB is about twice as loud so 4.6dB is louder but not twice as loud and sufficient to play loud with EQ.

By the way...I don't understand why DX3 Pro+ output power = 96mW@600 ohms. Should it be 250 /2 = 125mW as it's rated 250mW@300 ohms?
Why it's not the same calculation as L30ii which is 560 @300 ohms divided by 2 = 280mW@600 ohms ?
And "10dB is about twice as loud so 4.6dB is louder but not twice as loud" What does it mean? like if increase the Desired listening loudness by 10 db in calculation?

In this case; the Beyer 600ohms, needs 25.10 mW to reach 110 db? This mean the volume knob at maximum position, right? So if the amp in doubt has 16 db gain, the volume knob would reach 110 + 16 = 126db at maximum?

I tried to add 10 db to the desired listening level and it gone up pretty crazy.

Now I think I understand why we should have high gain on an amp. Otherwise it would need 3X more power.
Do I get it properly?

Thank you very much!
