Hello everyone here. I'm Osvaldo Zappacosta, ham radio LW1DSE since 1987 and Electronic Engineer since 2001. I'm tube (valves) enthusiast. I live in a town called "Barrio Garay", in "Barrio San José", at Buenos Aires province, Argentina, south America. Apx grid locator GF05TF.
I'm pleased to became a member of audio and ham radio forums, like this and DIYAudio, but the latter, became a garbage in my opinion.
Spanish speaker originally but educated in English as to write this lines using no help nor translators.

Hoping to share my knowledges, and to get still much more from the community.

What kind of music do you most like listening to with your tube amplifier equipment? [I lived in Argentina during the mid-Alfonsín presidency period and recently wanted to visit but am put off any plans because of the country's requirement that travelers arrive with proof of very extensive medical insurance.]

OK. In fact, I started two tube amplifiers, but none of them is finished. My actual amp is SS, including a PWM power supply. UC3842 + STP7N60, discontinuous mode flyback current mode topology ~50KHz. It gives me +/- 14V and +12V. The 14V supply feeds 3 TDA2030 for 3 bass amplifiers. The 12V is for TDA2006, for highs. It is 3 amplifiers feeding 2 Karlson 15" plus 4", each bi-amplified (L & R) and a third K12" + 4" (L-R) separated at low level. Opamps are all TL082 SMD at 5V obtained from the 14V supply, post regulated with 7805 and 7905. There is a discrete ana/dig input selector with HCF4051, controlled from a logic made with HCF4xxx and 74HCxx IC's and a 27C64 memory. Only two buttons need to select the audio program.

Regarding music tastes, I am fan of Joaquin Sabina and Joan Manuel Serrat singer songwriters, followed by some electronic music DJ's (Tiesto, Picotto, Van Buuren, Nick Warren, Danny Tenaglia, Westbam, etc.). A little of tango and local folklore. But I am AM listener all day long, prefered are Rivadavia AM630 & Mitre AM790.

Can we talk about ham radio and radio rigs? I am amusing modifying an old Collins 51S1. First, I restored it. And currently changed the circuit, improving its performance. I always suspected it can give much more than actualy it did, and I confirmed it. But, waiting answer to this doubth.

Or have had, listened to a Williamson tube amplifier? Impression? Are they available? What can one, in reasonable condition, cost? I could really imagine having one. Mostly for its HiFi history. :) Not as a main amp but in some nice secondary system. Then together with a subwoofer + LP/HP...

I really love tubes and how they sniffes when hot. Unfortunatelly I lack my formal job at 2020 during pandemic, and I live from ocassional or sporadic mini-job as elecric technician. So I need to restrict all unnecesaary money waste. This includes, the electricity bill. So, by this moment, no amp under development. Projects I had two, an EL34 PP with hand made toroidal OPT (I have pics, no lie) and an OTL with 6JN6's and several compactron tubes DC coupled, tested doing its job quite good. But, again, no margin nowadays for spent money in this hobbie.

In any case, many thanks for the info. I shall take a read to those threads.

If the money flow is currently tight, get involved in some threads here. It's free. Here's a thread you might like. The thread was mostly about music. Plus I added this:

Is there an "app" available for android for ASR?

Those are my ham radio rigs. From upleft corner, the mic covered with a protector (light brown), the SWR meter, FT7800 dual bander, FT767 HF, the box with two bright leds is the mic amp home made, under it the PKT modem and finally FT2400.

Both FT767 & FT7800 use same mic, Sony F710. One of the switchs enable to use mic in one or other set (not simultaneously).

Some Sony speakers, rhe internal ones sounds very bad IMHO.

FT767 uses 220V line mains, all other are feed by the 12V solar system.
