HEDD Audio HEDDphone D1

Wife is mad because I skipped the family trip to the Christmas market but I have good news for you.
I reduced a bit the energy between 6-9 kHz with EQ, which added some warmth and brought it much closer to the HD6XX for voices, and better for the rest.

This leads me to conclude that without EQ I would probably chose the HD6XX. But if one spends time EQing, the D1 is a technically superior headphones and could be a true upgrade to the HD6XX.
Now, I still believe it should be priced lower.
I also think the stock tuning of the Focal Clear MG (looking at the graph) would fit me better so I still want to try it, but it's pricier, not serviceable, pads are made with unicorn fur, and the headband cracks, with only 2yrs of warranty.

Testing still ongoing.

Thanks for sharing. ZimmerPrague 01 sounds a bit muddy to me but I totally get Maalouf. Sorry your wife got mad (for the greater good)

Are you listening to the YouTube version ? Because I find it considerably worst that the Qobuz version.
But I would agree with you that it's still not at the level of clarity/separation i would wish, and not at the level of my speaker system. It's definitely better than my HD6XX though and completely murder the HD505 in complex moments.

Are you comparing to any other headphones less muddy for Zimmer Prague 01 ? I could imagine an HD800S doing wonder here.

spotify "lossless"

Unfortunately I do not have a proper.A/B setup (yet?) it just did not sound seperated much. Maybe partly because of the live situation or the spotify variant is different mastering. Too many unknowns here

Got it. Thx.

I wouldn't use that target for measurements done on the older KB0065 ear (which is what GadgetryTech uses). I would recommend using the 2013 target (warmer) or the 2015 target (brighter), both of which were actually made on that system.

There ya go! Try that. If you need more treble feel free to just boost with a high shelf filter of Q: 0.4 and frequency of 2500 Hz (to taste).

2013 has too little bass for me. But things only really start for me tomorrow, because my D1 is supposed to arrive then. I’m very curious to see whether I’ll have any issues with mechanical driver clipping — if at all. I’ll report back

If so, feel free to add more bass! That part's not nearly so rig-specific as the stuff above 1 kHz :)

I definitely need a bass shelf. The Harman 2018 curve is right up my alley.
Yes when it comes to bass shelf.
Sometimes even more bump towards subbas ;)
I just love very very low rumbling notes.

How many times do you need to be told there wouldn't be any clipping at reasonable SPLs that don't cause hearing damage

Also how about hear the headphone first before dabbling in any DSP and I say this as a parametric EQ crusader

My statements are based on many years of experience with headphones.

About the clipping:
I’ll report back on that tomorrow.

About the EQ:
I’ve never preferred a flat frequency response in the bass range — I always go for a 5–7 dB bass boost. The D1 won’t change that either.

Cranking up the volume until that clipping happens would also damage the headphone, no?
