New open back headphone around $800 which according to first reviews and measurements seems very balanced and possibly the upgrade to the Sennheiser HD600 many were looking for.

Video review from another reviewer:

From above even at 115 dB not audible distortions (seems the new Textrene membrane drivers are quite well engineered:

Nice to see lately some new good designs in the headphone world.

Very impressive, though a subbass boost would be welcome. Well, there is always PEQ.

Yes, difficult to get such with an open passive design, but since drivers have very high SPL reserves PEQ is the weapon of choice there.

Why not just get HD800?
The HD800S doesn't even remotely sound like an HD600, that's not what you want to get if you want a better HD600 ie. similar tonal balance, better extension in the bass and treble.

With headphones soundstage almost always comes with trade-offs regarding tonal accuracy, and that's what the HD800S does.

It's only 400 euros more
And it's the definitive upgrade to the HD600/650
And has the best soundstage, separation and layering of any headphone so to me it's worth it , and I have a tiny budget.

well, its definetly not "only" 400 euros more in the country where i live, but i guess it depends.

if i get a chance i will also try the HD 800 S, but i think i cant buy any headphone thats over a 1000...

Have you heard them?

The 800 sounds nothing like the 6X0 series.

I owned them
It's true they don't sound the same, but it doesn't matter
They're in a whole other league, they're probably the best transducers I've heard, tied with the 8361.

These look fantastic, but I am not sure why I should opt for them over my 15€ IEMs however.

From a technical standpoint they do look better than my HD600 headphones, whilst maintaining a similiar frequency response. Price is high, not but stupidly so.

I said no to headphones after getting my speaker setup and already having great IEMs but seems I have something to demo at the next CANJAM. LOOKS INCREDIBLE in every metric

If i didn't already own the Sennheiser HD490 I’d possibly be interested but at £600 or £300 more expensive I’ll happily stick with what I have.

Surely that has to be the best high-SPL distortion performance of any dynamic driver headphone (at least that I've seen)?
edit - I guess the Airpods Max fare a little better at 114dB.

I'm not sure, he typically doesn't have anything bad to say that i've noticed. Kinda just feels like he hypes up anything

i think he is one of the more transparent reviewers out there and does quite a good job of breaking things down.
but yeah, for what the differences (nuances) in headphones are, most of the reviewers are way too hyped up about stuff.

this rollout is kinda similar to the sennheiser HDB630 where almost everybody raved how good it is...

at least, in these two cases, the frequency response is actually promising.
