Hey all. non techie hoping you intimidating engineering brain boxes can help me.

I have the nad c700 all in one BluOS streamer and I’m more than happy with it via my speakers. But it doesn’t have a headphone output. I knew that and have been cool with that, but having discovered the toppings desktop head phone amp performance (from a review on here) I thinking, I’d love to listen to headphones from the nad in my main listening room.

So my questions

Can I hook up a headphone amp to the c700?

What connections might I need?

What would be a decent bang for buck headphone amp (if possible) to drive senn hd650?

Pic of connects in the c700 below and any help gratefully received folks

You sir, are a gentleman. Thanks for the quick response and great news. Best wishes

Sorry to jump your thread, but I am doing the same, but how do you mute the main speakers while listening to the headphonea?

No problem, my friend. I haven’t set up the headphone amp to the nad yet. I have ordered the jds atom 2. Waiting for delivery. I am assuming (ha!) that the phones plugged in, ensure no speaker sound too, but this is an assumption!

I hooked up a Schitt Midgard to the preout & connected mezze 99's to it, but the speakers are still outputting sound, if I turn the nad volume all the way down, then the headphones mute as well, i can't seem to find a way to mute the main speakers

Which is how pre-outs normally work. I looked in the manual for the C700, and it only mentions a Bluetooth headphone connection, so you probably have to connect through Bluetooth to mute the speakers when using headphones.

Doh. Cheers all. This is a pickle.

Hmm. So theoretically, no output through speakers, because defaulting to a Bluetooth you are not using, so can utilise the headphone amp?

Keen to know if that works Trefon!

It seems like the C700 will turn off the speaker output if you connect a Bluetooth device like a wireless headphone or a DAC with Bluetooth.

I am planning to try this after work today, i am hoping that the bluetooth will shut off the speakers & allow me to use the pre-out for the headphone amp, i'll update you later

Given the information in this thread and in the user manual, I'd expect the C700 to output either via Bluetooth, or via Speaker+Pre out.

It's unlikely that with a Bluetooth device connected to the C700, it'll shut off the Speaker output but keep the Pre out running.

staticV3 is correct, I connected Bluetooth headphones to the c700 & verified the the pre out is not sending a signal while in Bluetooth mode, so it looks like there is no work around. I reached out to my local audio store & he said he would contact NAD to see if they have any solutions

Thanks for the update Trefon. There is a nad forum chat I googled couple of days ago where a nad rep says will look into the issue and then goes radio silent on the chat. I think it related to the master streamer in their line up. So I am guessing this is unlikely to be a priority for em.
