I just got a pair of Focal Elegia Headphones today. I'm currently using them with a iPad air and my Cambridge CXA81.

Would I benefit from a Headphone amp (something from Schiit?)?

My DAC streamer is the Cambridge CXN V2.

I was considering something like the Shiit heresy , magnius , vali2.. so I'm able to use my Cambridge DAC for now and add another DAC in a couple of months if necessary.

If you want to buy a Schiit I would recommend the IEMagni.

It's unlikely to make an improvement unless the there is something specifically wrong with the Cambridge (noise, not enough volume without distortion, etc.)

The Magnius could be an option when you have a balanced DAC and your headphone has a balanced cable.

The IEMagni has DC protection which might save your Focal when the amp fails. The Magni 3 and heresy have been reported to fail taking headphones along with it.

I agree with DVDdoug... but if you want to buy a Schiit amp for this headphone I would buy the IEMagni.

That sounds interesting with the DC protection.

The Cambridge cxn v2 has a balanced output.. so I could use a balanced headphone amplifier. I believe I could use a balanced cable with the elegia

Each earcup has a mono cable and I found XLR cables online for them.

.

What would be the better option.. CXN V2 (Balanced) with a Topping A90 or Gustard H16? And would these 2 be enough for more demanding headphones?
