HDMI and Audio Jitter

:) You mean anything but not D&M getting away with thrash equipment. Rooms don't cause such phase shifts between repeat sweeps at the same mic position I measure the very same speaker in the same room with a dac/power amp combo and none of this is there.

I once bumped into a post about a x4800 suffering from Heos Bluetooth power line interference which later disappeared but I don't understand hardware and I'd be very willing to know what's causing this. I can however assure it's not the room or other equipment. I take thousands of measurements (literally), it's even there to a lesser degree with pre-outs. And others have measured these with their own units in the past when we were trying to understand this.

Well, what do those measurements show then? Doing an actual jitter measurement is trivial.

Repetition and confidence don’t establish cause. None of what you describe is a jitter diagnostic, and no jitter-specific evidence has been shown. Phase variance between acoustic sweeps is not sufficient to infer clock jitter.

You're only helping D&M cover up a major issue with these useless comments. Let me know if you have a solution. I guess I'll have to keep bringing up the issue in other forums.

To have a solution we first need to know the problem. I’m not defending any manufacturer. I’m pointing out that the evidence presented does not diagnose jitter. If you believe it is jitter, the next step is a clock-domain or DAC-output measurement. Without that, it remains speculation.

The issue is that these units introduce timing errors when rapidly playing a logarithmic sine sweep which disproportionately affects the low-frequency phase response though deviations are present across all frequencies. I’m not sure what the correct term is, or whether it qualifies as jitter, but it is clearly a defect in these units. As a result, consumers cannot even perform accurate measurements of their systems. That’s the core problem. Dismissing it as a room issue (was that science?) or suggesting that you know how to measure jitter doesn’t address that at all.
 
I’m convinced that anxious worry and fretting about jitter in audio would be reduced about 95% if it was called periodicity deviation and had never been named “jitter.”
 
It's simple really. You can choose to be part of the solution or part of the problem.
 
Maybe start a separate topic about it instead of misusing this one… if you really think this is so important, it surely deserves its own place.
