HD 550 vs HD 490 Pro

Hey guys, for gaming, mainly and a bit of music, HD 550 or almost double where I am for HD490 Pro? Coming from a set of Beyerdynamic Tygr 300

I dont mind touching EQ. Are they really that similar in sound?

They differ in sound signature.
The HD490 pro has 2 'sound signatures' and the HD550 is kind-of in between those 2 signatures.

HD550 is intended for hifi listening.
HD 490 PRO is intended for pro use, mixing (with an emphasis on clarity) and 'producing' which is supposed to mimic how speakers in an average room could sound tonally.
Neither are intended for gaming but the 550 would probably be the best choice for that (not a gamer myself)

With EQ you can make them sound very similar so that would leave you with costs and comfort as decision point.

So I dobt have the option to test both. But can the 550 for a bigger head. For reference I've been using a set of Tygr 300R from Beyerdynamic (essentially a 990) and I find it quite comfy

550 does work for a bigger head. It is also quite comfortable.
Beyerdynamic (Tygr330R) sounds VERY different from HD550.
If you like that sound (stock) the HD490PRO with velour pads would be closest.

Why not keep using the TYGR and apply some EQ ?

Please dont judge my answer, but Ive had the Tygrs since launch, close to 6 years now, and had a little bit of downtime with it, waiting for spares and realised Id like to have another option. And yes I do like the Tygrs a lot. The only Sennheiser I tried was the HD600 and to my taste it was a bit too cold for me (Im sorry I don't know all the jargons). So I'd like to have a backup set that's complimentary to the Tygrs. I'd probably keep them for as long as one of them die completely. So I'd like to make the right purchase

The HD550 has pleather on the headband and can not be replaced if it goes bad.

That definitely makes a huge difference for me, I'm out here in the bushes so need things that are reliable and serviceable . thank you
