Having difficulties choosing a "budget endgame" nearfield bookshelf speaker

If you really like that Kef house sound then the Kef Q Concerto Meta would likely be a good choice or the LS50 Meta.

I placed a good chunk of Basotec foam on the wall behind my desk, didn't take measurements at the time but I felt I could hear the reverbs in music more precisely, maybe you could try that it's pretty cheap. And absolutely get a UMIK if you dont have one

The thing I worry about with Genelecs is that they are active. Not sure if that decreases their longevity. With the current passive setup I have if the amp/dsp is busted I can modular-ly swap it out. With the used genelecs I run the risk of a thousand dollar brick as I assume no one can really fix em at a decent cost.
Genelec is the exception. They still service 30+ year old speakers. We have them in installations that have been going 20+ years without a problem and used 8-12 hours a day.

Buying used is a risk, I understand your caution.

Service at a steep cost? Usually with a lot of electronics, past the warranty period, service fees from the manufacturer are really expensive and replacement is more feasible.

I think their service is priced accordingly, depending what needs to be fixed. . Not inexpensive, but not so expensive that you might as well buy new. Also, Depending on the model shipping can be the bigger cost.
