Hantavirus outbreak on ship; discussion

What. All of them?

Are you an anti-vax conspiracy theorist type, dabbling in a bit of audio science in your leasure time?

Or perhaps you are actually an expert authority on virology, and you really do know more about the subject than all of these pesky money grabbing charlatans in the WHO.

under normal circumstances what does your local health agency do...inspect restaurants for rats...

Ok. Phew.
Just for a moment there, I thought we were about to go down a: WHO are little more than a socialist cabal, who want to implant mind control chips, via vaccines... type rabbit hole.
My bad.

Once again I have misinterpreted someones post.
Ahem.

Just one thing to notice (as is seen in this example): WHO is the one and only institution, that is able to survail and react to a global problem, involving local and international contributions.
So no question is it ' essential'.

Hantavirus has been around forever, and has zero epidemic let alone pandemic potential. Yet none of you question the endless hype?...Why does everything suddenly have pandemic "potential"...what changed in human physiology in the last 10 yrs that makes us so frail?...

Nothing. We are not frailer. Plus we have better medicines than ever. But viruses mutate.

I'd suggest that the millions that died due to Covid only a few years ago has something to do with the the fear.

There's understandably a general fear of something similar or worse happening.

Clearly hantavirus ain't it. But Covid definitely raised the prospect of mass death due to a random virus mutation. Hence people get scared.

As to the hype: Fear gets clicks/views.

I guess that as a race, we had it relatively easy in this regard for many years.

Glass: half full... or empty?
Whatever.

Covid was far from a random virus...right?...there was nothing natural about it...the deaths were primarily due to the response not the virus...

Unfortunately that's where you seem to be astoundingly misguided.
Appears you don't believe in science.
Kinda thought so.
I'm out.
what am I "astoundingly misguided" about?...just how deadly do you think Covid was?...it was deadly to people over the average life expectancy with multiple comorbidities...it was similar to a bad flu, nothing more...no one was dying in their home, the response is what caused the deaths...

Liars in white lab coat camouflage have hidden behind the promise of 'science' and have duped millions, like the fellow who pressed the ignore button here.

Real science welcomes debate and evolves.
It isn't established for all time. It isn't a fixed law.

"Trust the science" is a cry to gag you and is meant to silence the truth.
Don't waste your time. The indoctrinated are happy to remain so.

Been cruise ship doctor during the last pandemic.
At the beginning, seen embarking pax having taken paracetamol before IR temp control.
Stayed 4½ months onboard.
Strict confinment (quarantine, if you prefer) 2 months, at anchor.

More, almost nobody think about the crew's fate ; numerous on "luxury" cruise ships.

There are so many "experts" here and there ...and there.
Officials take many precautions ...only in what they say. Guess why ?
I could smile...
:-(

We do not want to restart that old discussion again ... ?

Is this the beginning of the real pandemic that’s been threatening since forever?

Has to arrive eventually, and no one ever thinks eventually is now. But, naturally, one day it must be.
I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse.

Many years ago, I did research on mathematics of virus. In particular, half life of virus or elimination rate. You just look at how much virus is in blood, give them a purported antiviral and check the levels over time. This was primarily in HCV, although I have some publications in related areas. One, surprisingly to me, was in HIV.m(It wasn't likely to succeed and it did!)

One of the papers resulted in an elimination model, which in principle (not exactly) was used to develop the antivirals for HCV that became so successful. For a long time (I still think it is still valid), HCV was the only chronic viral disease that could be completely cured. It helps it is a RNA virus.

What seems so obvious now, was very advanced and innovative then. I never thought so, maybe because I was not biased by what they were doing but applying "high school algebra" to the problem.

Despite all my experience in viral diseases, I learned to be very cautious about any new virus. These buggers have a way to figure out how to survive over time, and the random mutations can be quite sneaky.

Despite this, I prefer to observe and say nothing on Hanta, as every little bug has its own way. I do read carefully though.

Sorry for the digression.
