Because the last one was so ridiculously mild, hardly worth the name pandemic (and largely killed only old people), the next will be much more vicious (it could hardly be less) and the monkey minds are now conditioned for a joke disease.

Not quite, I know it’s personal/heresay but there’s a couple of folk I used to race with (uk national level stupidly fit cyclists) who are still absolutely fucked because of the damage covid wrought throughout their body/immune system, serious blood clotting issues amongst other inflammatory ailments and unable to work due to utter exhaustion, I have SPMS and my body is knackered but they are in a worse condition

My next door neighbour, a genuinely lovely lady, not elderly, but not entirely healthy, died of it in three days.

Out in the garden for a chat, looking and sounding quite normal, and dead four days later.

My point was, and is, that Covid at the time of the lockdown and still, is nothing like a serious pandemic.

The 1918 flu is evidence enough of that.

We got off very lightly indeed.

The next one will not be anything like as benign.

I am saying that as pandemics go, it was as mild as one could be.

That’s is not in the least saying it was not ‘bad’, merely that the next one will shock the hell out of anyone who thinks the last one was typical.

Hantavirus has long been a fact of life here in New Mexico and people die from it every year. The incredibly sad case of Gene Hackman and his wife dying alone in their home included his wife succumbing to hantavirus.

Most of us are very aware of it and take prudent precautions such as masking when cleaning up outdoor sheds or anywhere there’s been a rodent infestation. It’s a chronic risk but not a contagion here.

Someone has to go to that Ushuaia dump and gather samples. It was probably done already. Then to the labs for intense PCR to figure out what’s there.

From what I've read It's the Andes Strain which is the only one known to transmit person to person. They're not sure about the origin yet.

There is no evidence yet from the sequenced strains that it is a new variant. Outbreaks of this virus have happened before and they are usually limited, it is just that now it happened on a ship. I am unsure how many persons that left the ship after they sailed from Argentina. If some of them are infected they could possibly spread it further.

It was said that everyone on the boat should have been quarantined for at least 42 days. A doctor treating a patient from that boat who is now in Jo'burg has come down with symptoms.

Symptoms does not mean infection by any virus.

Bottom line - it spreads easily, it's deadly and nobody has bothered with effective procedures.

(Explanation: Andes does NOT spread easily, only in near contact; it leads to more severe illness than other Hanta-Virus-Infections, true, but not "deadly" by definition/literally; and WHO as well as national Desease Control Agencies were and are informed and now act as guidelines recommend; don't know about UK-Complaints about this?)

Covid, which is an easily spread virus via airborne transmission has understandably triggered a degree of hypervintigalism against this 'new' pathogen, hantavirus.
The good news is it isn't nearly as easily spread and is incredibly unlikely to cause a global epidemic
