Hantavirus outbreak on ship; discussion

Is this the beginning of the real pandemic that’s been threatening since forever?

Has to arrive eventually, and no one ever thinks eventually is now. But, naturally, one day it must be.

Yes, I think the fact that it comes from rats makes it seem more scary. Ew... rats...
"The Plague!"

Whereas the much more dangerous avian viruses only come from birds...

Which are kinda cute.
Go figure.

Maybe, no one knows?
In any case, we all gotta croak sometime.
Don't worry, be happy. :p

WHO is largely a load of fakers on big salaries.

In the UK Lords today, an epidemiological report originating from an actual expert was presented to discuss massive and dangerous failure of normal procedures to contain such diseases. Turns out you can be infected and show no symptoms for up to 8 weeks, but essentially be a carrier in that time, before succumbing to illness that has a 30-50% chance of killing you. It was said that everyone on the boat should have been quarantined for at least 42 days. A doctor treating a patient from that boat who is now in Jo'burg has come down with symptoms.

I'm no expert, unlike many other on here - just saying what is happening in the UK....

Bottom line - it spreads easily, it's deadly and nobody has bothered with effective procedures.

Who’s worried.

I’m to old to care. But I do have younger people I care about.

Because the last one was so ridiculously mild, hardly worth the name pandemic (and largely killed only old people), the next will be much more vicious (it could hardly be less) and the monkey minds are now conditioned for a joke disease.

Especially the hard of thinking in the US.

Not something I actually think about until news like this.

Even then it’s a passing thought; but nevertheless a sobering one.

Only if Ebola becomes airborne like in one of the Tom Clancy novels.

True enough. But mutation is largely a random matter and that certainly cannot ever be ruled out.

It’s not worth worrying about, as it cannot be stopped if it is to happen. Darwin cannot be fought.

And, like I said earlier, whilst it’s all fascinating, I don’t give it any thought until something like the new virus ship story.

Then I need new pants for a brief while and all’s good.

But the US had a much bigger proportion of outright lunacy, and anti science cobweb heads.
The ole adage about opinions is perfectly at work here.

The problem with Ebola when it comes to being a pandemic - other than the horrific deaths - is the mortality rate is too high for it to spread without being an aerosol. It burns itself out because it kills too many hosts - it is not what you would call a successful symbiont.

Indeed. And thank all the gods for that

I still think we’re over due for another Black Death plague. But I might just need to get out more.
:)
