GSonic Reference – Free Stereo Room Correction Tool (Measurement + FIR Export)

There are three competing programs: Cavern EQ, yours, and DecayCore

Really pleased with the results of OCAs work and would like to incorporate a minipc into my chain. Does anyone have any suggestions on what options are available? It would be inserted upstream of a miniDSP. Ideally, the miniPC running Windows 11 executing Equalizer APO, input RCA, output RCA.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings, esteemed community!

I'm trying to get a handle on GSonic Reference, but so far, no luck.
I'm using Edifier R19BT speakers as my test subjects.
Don't get me wrong — i have no illusions about their capabilities. I'm just trying to learn the workflow for using GSonic Reference.
The problem is that when I try to play a test tone, as well as when I actually run a measurement, the sound I get is very faint, and it's heavily distorted — clicks and crackling.
However, in the program REW, all test signals play back without any issues and at normal volume levels. This goes for the overall signal, as well as the individual signals for each channel.
I've racked my brains, but I can't figure out what might be causing this behavior.
For reference, I'm using Arch Linux.

I think there could be a relatively easier way to implement this.

Right now I’m tied up with the measurement tool release, so I can’t promise a timeline. This app is still pretty early (only ~120 downloads of the last release so far), so I’m prioritizing features carefully but suggestions like this are really helpful.

If others would find this useful too, let me know!
are there any plans / schedule for the implementation of this feature? or perhaps is it already included in the gsonic immersive?
kindest regards

Hi,

I generally do not respond or react in this manner, and I understand this is not a GI thread. However, I have no other option to reach the developer regarding my query (I may block or remove from this thread or ARS after this post).

I have always had full respect for OCA, but the experience I am facing is not what I expected. With reference to my query about the non‑functioning (License key is Disabled) of my free license and the tickets I raised, I was expecting a possible solution rather than removal of my app access.

I also observed that my access to the Facebook group has been blocked after I requested support there and shared the response I received from [email protected], which stated: “It’s not your free license. It’s my app and my coupon. Write your own App ”. Additionally, I noticed that the developer has stopped accepting one‑on‑one queries on Facebook and is not addressing user concerns in the group.

I even asked if, since I no longer have access to the free license, I could purchase it. Having contributed multiple times to OCA, it is not a big deal for me to buy a $60–70 app to support his work. However, the lack of support and communication is unexpected and disappointing.

I request clarity on whether I can proceed with purchasing the license and, more importantly, that proper support channels be maintained for users.
Sorry, man, but if I were the developer of a tool and you were posting stuff from direct correspondence, I wouldn't give you any support either or sell you my tool.

Take a step back and think about what you're writing and doing.

And you really did get a free license that you didn't redeem? That's pretty generous of oca.

Your post smacks of entitlement. OCA is a very busy man. There are dozens of people on that GSonic forum on Facebook, and he has to prioritize paying customers. You can be grateful for what he has given you, or you can go take a hike. It was free, it cost you nothing, and here you are whining that he is not treating you like a king. You are lucky you got any attention at all! And now you are complaining that he revoked your license for something that you did not pay for.

I've just reported that post to mods, for publishing the private email address (removed from quote above)

Doxxing is not OK. Please remove the private email address immediately.

I created an unofficial Gsonic Immersive thread here

Specifically because OCA stated such posts are banned here.

Not saying he would respond there, but better than just ignoring that directive.

Thanks for your response......I deleted my post.....my intention was never hurt anyone's feelings including OCA's. I just shared my concern.

Use WASAPI Exclusive, NEVER use WASAPI Shared.

There are definitely differences between the tools, but for users this is only a good thing. More good free room-correction tools means more options, more comparison points, and more chances to find something that works well in a specific room and system.

OCA has also helped with DecayCore’s measurement side, so from my point of view this is more healthy cross-pollination than competition. More good free tools is a win for users.

I selected wasapi in GSonic Reference. Do I also need to add exclusive mode somewhere in Windows? Sorry for such basic questions, I don't use Windows for listening to music.

Usually no but depends on your mic.

Thank you, I have another queation, it's difficult to place a mic perfectly between two speakers, is your software adjusting somehow the delays between the speakers to make it aligned?

No need to center mic perfectly. Algo assumes mic is roughly centered between FL and FR though.

Great job! Very user friendly and suitable for begginers software.

Filters created by your software sound great.
I listened to filters created to be similar to genelec's approach, PEQ up to 400hz and shelving filters above.
My loudspeakers never sounded better with rock music, weight of bass increased but not at the expense of soundstage.
