At the moment, I manually grant extensions for GSonic Immersive when there’s a genuine need. That said, I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to keep doing so indefinitely (life expectancy and all that). In any case, even today’s audio formats tend to have a finite lifespan.

Also, a heads-up: the introductory price of the app is increasing from $59.99 to $74.99 in about 20 hours.

To be clear, when I get my new PC/motherboard I'd have to contact you personally?

Sorry I meant being tied to specific hardware, only allowing a fixed number of transfers, requiring contact with a specific human who may die.

Even if only $20 that is not relevant, talking about design principles and consideration of the customer.

Reminds me of the bad old days of hardware dongles.

Even a subscription model would be better.

I am sorry, but we are entitled to nothing. I cannot judge how many ours of work and knowledge-acquiring OCA has put into this, but this is what it costs to make use of that. Everybody can make his/her own purchase decision. If OCA's licensing model is too limited, he will notice that in his sales. Knowing what room correction can do, it is probably still one of the more effective purchases, assuming it is good match for your situation. (Compare this to all the DAC nonsence that is going around!) OCA has shared a lot of his projects for free, we cannot blame him for asking a financial compensation this time.

Only talking about my opinion on the model, which yes is just expressing a proference. I would rather pay 5x more for lifetime and be trusted to use it on arbitrary hardware, I have dozens of machines I could assemble, and none may be around next month.

If you simply want to state your preference, don't write sentences like: Even if only $20 that is not relevant, talking about design principles and consideration of the customer. To me this reads definitely like you demand OCA to work following your ideas. Not mentioning that he showed a lot of consideration when trying to help people that had questions about his FREE tools.

You (we) don't know what is feasible for OCA in what appears to be mostly a hobby project / side business.

The license policy is not intended to restrict legitimate users from owning multiple copies. Its purpose is to prevent abuse. Without such safeguards, a single purchase could effectively be used to obtain unlimited free copies, undermining the licensing model. Requiring users to contact the developer when replacing a computer is a relatively minor inconvenience compared to the potential losses that could result from unrestricted license transfers.

As for concerns about what may happen 10 or 20 years from now, this situation is no different from countless software and hardware products that eventually become incompatible with newer systems. Technology has a finite lifespan, and no software developer can realistically guarantee perpetual compatibility across decades of operating system, hardware, and platform changes.

Why on earth would you want to use GSonic while you’re experimenting with ‘big noisy’ and other unsuitable models? And why would you expect OCA to finance these experiments, and for how many of them?

with license terms that better align with my principles and process preferences

happens to do a good job, I may end up never even testing this one.

In fact my only reason for using a PC at all in my audio reproduction system might be testing to see if this software helps.
