Ground loops

"pc noise"
Just for the fun of it,I tested a known noisy laptop (CPU/GPU/fan noises) with every single ground in the system lifted, everywhere (not a good tactic,it was just for test) .
Noises got even louder with the Fostex's.

Some ground schemes worked to a point, some didn't.So much as to consider it random.

Someone must investigate this matter seriously.

Most laptops don't have a ground connection to the actual machine, even if the psu is grounded. Did this one?

Obviously not.
The lifted grounds refer to the rest of the chain,DAC and powered speakers.
Laptop was not charging,obviously.
ASIO drivers used to eliminate system noises, etc, the works.

What I wanted to do was not ground (earth) reference whatsoever, nowhere and start from there.
But nope,it's the machine itself.

The one time I had “ground loop” issues was when I first got a DAC.
On the ingest (ADC) side I had it hooked up to the preamp.
The clicks and computer sounds were dire.

Once I cabled the DAC side XLRs on, it then quelled the clicks on ingest.
It was way worse than the TT for nasty click sounds.

All that I described are with the TRS (balanced) Fostex's input.
Someone in another thread suggested that these PC noises are maybe sometimes magnetically coupled so not much to do about it apart from isolators and stuff.
There are even reported cases of such noises when optically connected!

PC audio can be so simple as my PC which is dead quiet despite it's a full tower with GPU and stuff and so crazy as the above laptop which sings of it's own

Hmmz. I have had a few PCs and notebooks since ~1999'ish when I first started my computer journey with a P75 desktopper. All the cheap ones buzzed and made noise from the PC and all the expensive gear has not. My present ASUS motherboard is quiet as can be at full volume as I listen near all the time. It cost me CDN $489 but it gives me zero issues thus far. That is worth the expense for me.

Same reason I go with Gigabyte (not the "audiophile" version) and nice PSUs.
Just because they have proved themselves quiet.

The noise of the one I use right now is down to -113dB through E-MU (which is the limit of the poor interface) :

@amirm apparently only purchases Gigabyte too. I can take any major builder as long as it has a strong switch mode power supply setup onboard and lotsa cooling for a OC Intel K series as I am a gamer in my spare time if I can find any now because I am always here...LoL. . That costs moola.

Got everything hooked up for a quick test, no hum as far as I can tell...
 Glad to hear that ALL is good and there are NO issues, Hum-Wise after setting everything up :)
