Speaking of the Grimms and Genelecs
I'd rather spend just 20K more than LS1C+subs and get the mother of all end game speakers :cool:View attachment 454363
Completely agree with the value proposition of the Grimms, it is horrific, one of the worst I have seen. But, at least you are getting a very well measuring speaker, certainly can’t say same for most of the oligarch priced nonsense out there.

I do you one better … D&D 8C for LESS than the Grimms, end game for many. Or even the 8361s for that matter. Of course I will take my Soundfields against any of them

It is the price of the Grimms that has many of the naysayers here hung up, not the performance. And by the way, I have heard the Grimms, not many can say that. They were good, but absolutely not $40k good, that is crazy town. And many other speakers for much less that outperform them, for MY ears and pocketbook.

Some of us like seeing the drivers ;)

Sure, but that grey cone with copper phase plug woofer is pretty awful. For the price, need some lipstick on that pig!

Did you get your Soundfields? I think these look far better.

As already mentioned, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally, I have always found the concept and design appealing because it follows the principle of form follows function.

For this reason, I also found it appealing as a DIY project. Because you can still add a personal touch and you have more freedom. A more potent subwoofer, crossover frequencies and filters for the subwoofer can be freely selected.

It is still a lot of fun to listen and experiment with all parameters.

You built these?! They look so good.

Completely agree with the value proposition of the Grimms,
Do we know the value proposition? They may well be worth the same or better ten years from now just like the original version. For the audiophiles we like to call suckers they are getting a surprisingly capable speaker.

Just to mention, the low frequency response is down 7db at 30hz, that's enough no matter how it is measured.

I actually always liked the look of the Seas Excel, ever since my pair of the original Linkwitz Orions

Linkwitz was a great engineer. His industrial design skills were less so imo.

Did you post your Soundfields here?

For Amir’s sake…

The value proposition is poor because you can get same/better (audible) performance for less. So why purchase these vs another? What performance justifies this price vs other comparable performance options? And I suspect many that have the means to drop this amount of cash on speakers could care less about the measurements.

I liked the look of the Orions. The Plutos? Not so much … definitely flirting with ugly

As to the Soundfields, build not complete, but still enjoying the protos immensely in the meantime.

And I like the disclaimer LOL

Not a fan of the look generally speaking, but a beautiful build regardless! Nice work

LOL.

It’s hilarious how people differ on aesthetics.

I generally don’t like seeing speaker drivers, yet the SEAS excel drivers are one of the few that I think look really cool. That’s one reason why I like the look of the Grimm speakers.

And it’s also why I make an exception to my “ grills must always remain on” rule for my Joseph audio speakers. In person, the speaker drivers have a luxurious materials look rather than just a plane, white or black driver, and I like the way the copper phase plugs tie in with the copper surround of the tweeter:

Beauty in eye of the beholder and all that, I think they are ugly. Even your beloved Genelecs looks better than these @Pearljam5000 , and that’s sayin something! :p

Oh, that’s a hard no! ;-)
