Hi I used to really like the CTI (Creed Taylor) stuff: Freddy Hubbard, George Benson, Billy Cobham, Joe Farrell- Wow. Been listening to Joe Farrell's "Moon Germs" lately, fantastic, regards

Alpha has a variety of classical music, recording quality varies from good to excellent.
Pentatone has consistently great classical music recordings.
Decca has a history of great historical recordings, as does EMI.
Deutsche Grammophon has a long history and continues to make great classical music recordings.
Sony Classical, from the early digital days with engineer Bud Graham, through and including today.
Telarc is a great label for both classical and jazz.
Genuin makes consistently great classical music recordings.
Lawo also makes fine recordings with a variety of music.
BIS made great recordings back to the 70s up to today. Their house sound is overly bright but still quite good.

For the more vintage decades of the blues, at different times, it was Chess, Rounder and Alligator record labels that were important. Some big "box-set" type collections taken from their respective blues catalogues have been released if any reader is interested.

That was in the era when blues artists often moved on to a new recording label when one label folded or a label got bought out as it floundered. This accounts, in part, why we sometimes come across several versions of recordings by key musicians like Howlin' Wolf that diverge a lot from our memory of it's classic rendition.

VITAL records. David Manley ( of VTL fame) constructed a recording studio and used a single point tube Mic for their recordings. They didn't release much material but I think every audiophile should have at least one of their releases. Most of the material is vinyl but some had a CD release.
