If there is one message I could imprint on humanity, it is this: **For optimal sound object head-encircling proximity effects in your ATMOS music and films, disregard the inadequate home ATMOS guidelines regarding azimuth width. These guidelines create an overhead void and cause object panning around the room's walls instead of around your head, a spatial experience preferred by humans for millennia.**

cinema spacing.jpg

**The exact same spacing should be used here based on the outer seats of a three-seat couch, where the center of the coaxial aligns with the outside shoulders of the outer seats and not one inch further out. The feeds for the ATMOS tops are not spatially remixed for home audio; they retain the original cinema ATMOS spatial design. Do not alter this setup.**

This is a Garage conversion on a second home (limited budget)
Limited in the loosest sense of the word, I gather...

The hificompass review is really interesting. In the closed box simulation, f3 at 19.7hz... not tooooooo shabby.

Would be really interesting to put together a true full-range 2-way with this, although not sure if you can really pull it off without doing a horn for the treble?

IM HOPING IT FEELS LIKE 3m$.:D
You're going to have 10-30hz with a lot lower THD than most people have ever heard... I will be interested in the subjective impressions of that, especially just pure tones.

Personally I never heard 15hz without mega THD until I tried it on my LCD-XCs and it was actually more disorienting than impressive, I couldn't "hear" much of anything, but I got the distinct impression that the house was shaking. From headphones!

I think the Purifi 10s might give a similar experience... or something else entirely... looking forward to the listening report. :)

You can get it for comparatively no money with an infinite baffle sub... One 24" in IB on less than 400 watts here. Thd is below my noise floor everywhere except around Fs where it's about 0.8%

Should be able to do about 105dB at 10hz with this single driver but I have no use for hearing damage

The effect is unnerving for sure... A strong physical sensation and no clues for your ears as to what's going on. Doing test tones I was surprised by the primal panic I got.. knowing what was about to happen when I hit play. But I think your body thinks it's a legitimate earthquake, landslide, avalanche, volcanic eruption.. something like that because I don't think there's any other time in nature we'd hear something like that

I know that feeling. It’s your fight or flight instinct kicking in. I get single digit Hz at Reference levels and it just envelops you and something inside goes snap, danger….it’s a very unusual sensation. Never get use to it. At least I didn’t.

@5150 @AdamG. LoL... I was in a Camaro with a very powerful audio system and when it was cranked up my vision was failing. :D

Yes, eyes go blurry. I forget what frequency that is but there is a specific frequency that affects the eyes at the right intensity. Or maybe the wrong intensity. I will see if I can find the graph.

Found it:

I’ve had/felt that feeling but sat in the back of an open land rover as we’re parked up and a massive lion appears out of nowhere and roars at us….Jesus-Christ…..my balls disappeared up into my armpits. (Zimbabwe)

Agree, it happens even with just headphones, but in-room it would have to really freak you out.

Funny enough, some "haunted houses" supposedly just have strong subsonic resonances in them which cause hallucinations, (by vibrating the eye) and a sense of dread / unease.

Come to think of it, haunted house attractions around Halloween could really up the scare factor that way. Rig up a rotary sub or something...

WOW. Never thought of using Ultra Low ULF sound for that purpose. It’s sinister and unique. I love it. :p

Often referred to as the fear or ghost frequency, I’ve seen mention of 18, 18.98 and 19Hz. Myth buster even did an episode on it. What struck me as really cool is that it’s not about it being played loud enough that you can ‘hear’ or feel it.
Hollywood uses it, too, to create a feeling of unease and rising tension.

Like a Sponge. I just try to absorb some of the brilliance that overflows from all the incredibly smart Members around here. Perhaps a comparison to a Solar Panel placed in full Sunlight is a more modern description. ;)

Happy and safe Sunday Shipmates…
