Good versus accurate ...

With other hobbies, be it cars, bikes, cameras, watches, knives. Or whatever.

How many folks with a passion for these things only have one type? Very few, I'd venture.

Not sure why it should be any different with audio personally.
Experimenting, collecting, tweaking plus possibly buying/selling... All part of the fun, I'd say.
YMMV.

Most of the people in my life could not care less about accurate or good or whatever. They just like music and they love what it sounds like on my systems. They are however, just as happy to listen on a cheap Bluetooth speaker. I don’t recall ever having even a heated conversation with any of them about the difference in our perspective.

Aye. Us males and our hobbies.
Nothing like arguing endlessly about what's "best". Odds are that most enthusiast forums like this are similar. Curious if women are the same with their hobbies...

They are simply not part of the "enthusiast" bubble.

imho, there is a difference between recorded sound reproduction technology, and sound manipulation technology (DSP, equalizers, distortion generators etc...)

In the realm of sound reproduction technology, accurate = good.
In the realm of sound manipulation technology, capability to adjust the sound to listeners subjective liking = good.

Good or accurate is not the right choice, you can have both!

All progress was the result of some professionals and amateurs that were convinced there was room for improvement.
Professionals asked themselves can we record the music better.
Amateurs tried to improve the sound they got from their equipment.

Avoid the trap that demands more attention for hardware than listening to music.
For many the moment comes that they are happy with the results they achieved.
That gives you the opportunity to enjoy what it is all about: Music!

Correct!
After due consideration, a clarification building on my opening post may soon be forthcoming. Please have patience (with the elderly :p:p).

It’s the pigs and gems thing. Not everyone would understand gems - accurate.

Oh wow, pigs vs. gems, that’s very nasty.

I see them as precious metals vs. precious gemstones.

Indeed.
(Condescending or what?)
Gotta love forum discussion!

I buy them accurate but then comes the room, EQ and 4 subs, so I guess some would say I ruin a perfectly seasoned dish. Oh well, nobody is perfect...

Others can enjoy their perfect cup of audio tea with milk, sugar or whatever they fancy to add on the side.

Well maybe they are in that they are passionate about Music and/or movies but just not fussed about the gear or reproduction. I find it hard to relate to that personally, I love both and to me the excellence of the reproduction enhances my enjoyment.
