The only critical property of audio cables is length - it must be adequate!
Fortunately it is also measurable scientifically and with affordable appliances, so cable selection is piece of cake for us objectivists.

A couple of years ago I was reached by a rather shady recruiter putting together a team of researchers to maximize return on casino video games, I didn't even know that casinos had video games. One thing he emphasized was flexible morals. My job would be to make the game as addictive as possible. I didn't interview with them, but it stuck with me how properly thought out and analytic their approach was. I think it is safe to assume that any industry where you can reap rewards by fooling the gullible has been inhabited by the likes of him. They hire people with diverse backgrounds ranging from engineering to behavioral studies with the single purpose of manipulation and exploitation.

Garth shared stories of his early work as an apprentice to great engineers who showed him the ropes. He talked about how these dudes could build a transmitter with their eyes closed, and make impossible repairs look like child’s play.

But even as brilliant as they were, and for all that advice he took back then (this was the ’70s), Garth knows for a fact that if he ever suggested to them that one day, he would be championing loudspeaker cables making a difference, they would have thought he was an idiot and had his head. Like the experience some of our wonderful internet forums offer….

The master liar strikes. CLASSIC case of any interview with these sorts of people:

1) Claim they were under the wings of the best people in the industry.

2) Praise their ability to no end to divert attention and possible skepticism and thoughts of bloated ego of himself, giving his masters all the credit.

3) Create the tale of how "self intuition and belief" triumphed when the day finally came to turn the tables and surpass his masters who all would think he is an idiot. (If any of this story is true, I believe this part, but not the way Garth thinks.. I believe him in the fact that he was thinking how to eventually be a part of scams like this, and his "masters" didn't see the monetary value of undertaking such a thing. Of course he never told them that was the hopeful intent, but possibly a litmus test to see if he can work his bullshit on them, which he failed most likely). Who knows though, this whole story could be a total fabrication.

4) Compare the masters who could do "impossible repairs" blindfolded to the people requesting scientific results on the internet today. (As if this is something bad.. this is possibly the greatest compliment someone from Audioquest could have ever given us, as opposed to themselves who are seemingly throwing blindfolds on all their customers essentially).

The only "child's play" in this whole ordeal as mentioned in the quote, is this attempt to come off as a rational person. It's so bad and evident that this guy is a con, children wouldn't persist to this degree. But with customers like there's... you know the rest...

What year was this? Would be pretty interesting from a historical context to know when the predatory practices of lootboxes and microtransactions began to start hiring folks such as yourself.

Also, if you can, what credentials did you and your team posses (or what occupation?) where someone like that would be looking at you as a potential pioneer for one of the most disgraceful practices in entertainment history? I assume behavioral psychologist?

This was in 2015. I don't think it had just begun though. They already had their offices at the world trade center, so they must have been at it for some time.

Oh yes, they definitely were gunning to get you on-board quite anxiously.

Thank you for sharing by the way, I know etiquette is otherwise against prying like this. I just couldnt resist as it's one of my hobbies sometimes to play games here and there.

If I build it myself, using Neutrik or similar good connectors so they latch firmly and have high durability / long life, use top quality low reactance cable from Belden. Price that on Mouser or similar sites and you're at around $50, maybe $100 if you need long cable runs or special connectors.
Now contact Blue Jeans Cable in Seattle and they'll build it for you at a similar price to what it would cost to do it yourself.
That might cost $100, so you only save $48,500.

Other important properties are proper ground shielding and reactance. You don't want your cables to induce hum or act as tone controls, especially on long runs, or from devices with high output impedances.

Properly engineered unbalanced cables won't hum or roll off high frequencies. But poorly engineered ones can.
Balanced cables shouldn't hum, but high capacitance can still cause HF rolloff even with balanced cables.
