It’s always fun reading Swedish :) most of it is quite understandable for somebody that knows a bit of Dutch, German and English. Hearing it however:facepalm:

Herring. We in Sweden love that too. Attach photo, herring in different inlays::)

Never been to Scandinavia, which I hope to fix in the future. But have had the pleasure to dine at Aquavit, a 2 star Michelin restaurant in NYC, where they serve a brunch that features the variety of herring preparations in the photo. Fantastic food experience.

On our first trip to Holland, @40 years ago. We visited my grad school buddy's family in Wasenaar and his father wanted to "initiate us" into Dutch culture. That morning he went out and found some very fresh herrings and presented them to us with chopped onions and some fresh beer. He was shocked that the silly Americans, as his son referred to us as, grabbed the fish just like in the photo and downed them like seals. He was unaware of the relatively recent introduction of sushi to US and the fact that anyone who lived on the upper west side of Manhattan with any sense regularly enjoyed smoked Nova from Zabar's or Murray's Smoked Fish Shop, even if they were of Irish or German descent like me and my wife.

Back to Benelux, love Belgium and Netherlands and look forward to visiting Luxembourg, and maybe investing in a high powered Purifi amp from Boxem when my 25 year old McCormack DNA-500 gives up the ghost. My wife informed me recently that one of her great, great grandfathers was from Luxembourg but moved as a young man to work in Germany, where he stayed. So we will have to visit his village some day.

that sounds so freaking american, i have to try it one day
Yeah, it’s basically apple syrup. One of the ingredients of another traditional Dutch recipe: Zuur vlees. Actually this is mostly famous in the south where I come from, but also in Belgium.

He emigrated to Sweden with his parents in 1949 at the age of twelve. He was educated as a social worker and hoped to become a journalist, but became increasingly involved in music, performing at events for students with idiosyncratic humor and social engagement. Cornelis Vreeswijk is considered one of the most influential and successful troubadours in Sweden

Basically everything in the top 10 amplifier SINAD other than Topping and Benchmark is more or less from the Netherlands.
Not really true, Hypex may be a dutch company, but the designer/engineer behind it is Bruno Putzeys, a Belgian from Leuven (a city east of Brussels). And he is also the guy behind the Purifi (based in Denmark) amps (not the speaker drivers).

But Bruno learned the skills he has now largely as employee of Philips, when working in the department based in Leuven (closed in 1989) while developping the UcD amp system that was commercialised by Hypex years later. So Dutch companies like Philips and Hypex were essential in that development as NCore and Purifi are based on his old UcD technology, that is true.

Hypex is probably one of the most fascinating and best things that has happened on the HiFi amp front in recent decades.:)

By the way, Denmark was mentioned now I see.
Does anyone want to start a new thread with the title:
Good HiFi from Nordic countries (or with a similar title) please do so. I think it feels a bit ..hm.. what do I know ...if I were to do it myself, create such a new thread that is.:)

For many years Philips had a huge research operation, with inter alia one of the world's largest physics labs (Natlab). This effort produced the CD, amongst much else. One of the divested offsprings of this emphasis on research is the company ASML, the world's leading manufacturer of top tier chip making machines.
