Not sure if this qualifies as exciting news as GoldenEar speakers are what they are, but potentially good news overall as the brand is joining more serious house than Audioquest and hopefully will do better in the future.

This is not very good because economies of scale are being made and so on the one hand low costs are being achieved but on the other hand there is no longer the possibility of developing innovations.
The same has happened in the automotive industry where there have been mergers of companies under large groups.

I hoped it would change the ear...

Here is Audiolholics with some additional editorial comments:

My speakers are GoldenEar Triton Sevens, so I have a passing interest. But I don't see any particular reason for GoldenEar to continue. Their signatures were (1) AMT tweeters (now commonplace), (2) powered bass sections (separate subs are a superior solution for good bass), and (3) a sales model of brick-and-mortar dealers only (already abandoned by Audioquest). And of course Sandy Gross was a marketing genius. But with all the other speaker companies out there, including Paradign and Martin-Logan (which has a line with AMT tweeters), does the world still need GoldenEar?
